Hi!

When I put the key into the ignition barrel and try to turn the key from the "Lock" position to the "Off" position it seems to stick.

It takes a few tries to get it to turn. I don't want to snap my key! So is there anything I can do so that this does not happen?

Thank you.

Wow, thanks for the quick answer!

Yeah, I was thinking about putting WD40 in there, but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks.

Nah, the key is fine. I only noticed it happening when I went to the bike after work last Thursday night at about 1am. I figured it was just the cold causing it to stick.

Cheers.

I'd use, some WD40 just to free everything up, then perhaps a squirt of something a bit heavier, perhaps with graphite or other slippery stuff to keep it slick. I use some spray bicycle oil, especially in my filler cap key, as that tends to lose all of it's lube.

Chain lube ftw. Worked on my old knackered petrol cap. Cool

With out being condesending, alot of the time you have to jiggle the handle bars slightly to undo the steering lock Rolling Eyes . I assume you are doing this? Wink

All the best,

Richard

Happens a fair bit this time of year, must be down to damp and cold.

I use grease or vaseline, stick it on the key and jiggle it around in the lock. Coats the internals and stops water getting in there. Also stops your locks freezing when it gets real cold. Just remember to clean your key afterwards.

Probably gummed up with road flm.

Years ago I had a 100cc bike and in the winter the ignition-lock used to freeze up solid. I cured it by pouring a kettle of boiling water onver the lock, blowing it out with an air-line and squirting it full of WD40. Worked for the throttle cable too, which also froze one day whilst I was out riding.
