What are they? I prefer ales, stouts and porters, all no warmer than 45 degrees farenheit. However, I've heard that's not exactly how they were intended to be drank. What's the real deal?

I would suspect anyone who enjoys a real ale served at 8-12deg C would consider them a warm beer, especially compared to the super-chilled 4deg C stouts and lagers that have become so fashionable these days.

I personally enjoy ales served at the correct temperature, and occasionally a cooler lager in the summer. Wink

I agree totally with Lee R here. Big fan of guinness extra cold in the summer though. Ale warmish, stout cold, lager i try and avoid but if not, deffinately cold.

Real ale, bitter etc... room temp ( well, cellar temp )
Lager Cider etc... Cold
Guinness is always served cold, but i think really it should be room temp.
As above though, it doesnt really matter, just get it down. Very Happy

Whilst room temperature isn't ideal, anything below 12 degrees CELSIUS (bloody yank) is fine by me. Though the refreshment factor of a lager isn't as potent when it isn't below 4 degrees.

I don't really drink real ales and the like, just not a big fan of them. So I prefer my beer to be nice and cold, especially in the summer.

Ales and Bitter, celler temperature.

And lager has got to be very cold, if im in my local they'll stick a pint pot in the fridge for me to cool it down some more.

Warm lager is just disgusting. Sick

Me, for one. With Willow on this, both born and raised on the real ale (it's good for you, it has many health benefits including assisting the maintenance of a slim figure) - it has to be room temperature. If it's cold, you can't taste it.

Who the heck would drink cold red wine? There's no difference here Smile

COLD red wine?!!!?!?!?! WTF. That's mental.

Hmmm nice Shiraz Cabernet sounds quite appealing right now.

Precisely my point. Cold ale has exactly the same effect on me as cold red wine.

*shudders*
A complete waste of a good beverage.

But the question is. What do you do with a Guinness? I'd say celler cold, but there seems to be a switch to having the deep frozen as well.

I'd like to try that new Red Guinness as well, apparantly not so heavy.

Rules of beer:

As much as possible as quickly as possible.

Beer is a catch all word for any available alcoholic drink be it a chilled Sancerre or a bottle of turps.

Oh! And real ale drinkers must have beards. Thumbs Up

I have no idea what Budweiser is classed as these days, but you can't beat a chilled bottle of it on a hot summers day.

My personal preference at the moment is cold Becks, but i also like a good real ale at cellar temp, room temp is also ok.

I also quite like that Thatchers single variety apple cider, very tasty.

Rookie, a good stout would be Wychwood Brewerys Black Witch if you can find it.
