hi again my back end on my gilera dna is had it, what i was wondering is it law that u have to have a number plate light or reflector on the back on the plate

will you me able to pass mot and can the police do u for this

does the plate need to be exactly flat or can it be at an angle showing up

1. Reflector

2. Number Plate Light
Registration Plate Lamp has been taken out of the MOT Tester's Manual from what I can tell so unsure whether it's a necessity anymore or not. I'd hazard a guess if the wiring and fitting is there for one, it needs to be functioning correctly to pass.

If its a 50cc moped and not capable of more than 30mph it doesnt need a number plate light.... if it doesnt meet that critera then one MUST be fitted.

Yes it needs a red reflector fitted as close to the central line of the vehicle as possible.

Number plate also has to be as close to vertical as possible.

is that right about the number plate light? i have just bought one and gone through the trouble of making a bracket for it... Thumbs Down

Another point to note... many rear lights have a clear vent in the base that acts as your number plate light (my CB500 has this) rather than it's own dedicated light.

My ZX7R has a tail tidy and no light or clear section on the underside of the lamp its self, I believe that you do need to illuminate the plate, so god knows what I'm to do come MOT time.

Buy 4x 3v LEDs in white... wire em together in series... drill relevant sized holes in tail tidy and insert em thru from behind so that they're pointing at yer number plate. Splice it into 12v line for rear light.

The reflector is an easy one to fix - you can get hold of small adhesive ones that will do the job pretty easily.
