Engine racing?!!!!

hi

the bike is a dt125r '01

my bikes engine keeps on racing, it only seems to be when its wet, but it doesn't seem like when a bike normally races. it will sometimes be at 4-5000 revs or sometimes at 9000 revs.

sometimes i pull in the clutch with a closed throttle when i can feel it doing it while I'm going along, sometimes it will carry on racing at whatever revs its doing it at, or sometimes it will rev up then back down to normal tick over!!!

as you can imagine trying to go through traffic with a bike that is trying to do 9000 revs isn't exactly fun or safe, i also look like a complete twat when changing gear as it revs up when i pull in the clutch!!!

You could check that your throttle cable is not stiff/stuck. Even if the grip springs back to its stop, check that the connection at the carburettor is returning to its stop as well.

Failing that, it could be the mixture leaning out. Have you done anything with your carburettor/airbox, or fiddled with the engine? I remember that my 125 used to rev like crazy when I ran out of petrol; something to do with the mixture leaning out. I am unsure why yours has 'suddenly' developed this fault.

Best guess I can make.

hi all

i've been monitering the cable that seems to be working all fine. i don't think it is the mixture leaning out as if it is that, once you've put load on it it should stop racing shouldn't it? well it certainly wouldnt power the bike with me on it would it?

anyway it only does it when its bloody raining and it seems to be doing that a lot recently

i really need help please from anyone as it nearly killed me today and i can sense the clutch and brakes starting to feel the strain!!!

Check for air leaks around the carb before you start messing with your mixture.
