The fear of salt ruining my pride and joy has forced me to commit an act of sin and get myself a car for winter! That and sliding sideways on tractor poo whilst on a corner in the pissing rain, with cars blinding me through my dirt caked helmet.

Mainly though, its the fear of salt destroying my favourite thing in the world, getting to work in the morning and knowing that your bike is outside caked in salt, and wont be relieved of it until you get home and wash it, but secretly knowing that you will be so tired when you finish that you will put the cleaning off.

So yes, got myself an awesome 99 Vectra turbo diesel with a tyre squealing 98BHP.

Roll on summer, when i`ll get my Blackbird and probably crash it through lack of practice! woot!

Anyone else chickening out of the winter?

I take the motorbike on wet days. Push bike for nice days.
A 4-wheeler if I need to pick something big up from work; traffic annoys me too much!

Thing is, its not that bad yet..

Hacks are plentyfull and stupidly cheap, i can have two and insured for the price car insurance is for me...

Haveing the option is good, if rideing in shitty weather isn't your idea of fun then why bother if you dont have to.. at the same time if its still fun then get yourself a hack for £300 or less and let the salt do whatever it likes.

Of course thats if it REALLY is the salt and not just being a nancy Razz

i want your babies!
i want one too but dunno if you can carry pillions, so it might rule out having one, as the OH would get really annoyed if she wanted to go out for a ride and i turned up on a quad unable to carry a pillion,
deffo want a banshee!!!

LOL, yes, you can carry pillions, from what I've heard though you need a car license to ride them, which has me baffled since they are quad-bikes, however lucky for me I was stupid enough to do my cage test before my bike one! Laughing

There's quite a few road-legal quads round my way, they do look awfully good fun! You don't have to wear a lid on them either.

Sadly though it seems that the market has been flooded with Chinese crap.

Because they have 4 wheels.. when the laws changed to stop bikers driving reliant robins and small capacity cars this includes these.

From several people whos ridden them (and from watching them) there proper gits to ride, you have to lean right off to get around corners, great for offroad and pishing about but for fast corners there not exactly what i'd want to be dealing with on a dayly basis..

From what I've seen you get the worst of both worlds - no weather protection, you go around corners worse than both vehicles and generally it's only the competition ones that are decently fast, I believe.
Do get to drift them in slippy conditions, though Smile.

A Quad would kick ass, either that or an Ariel Atom for the winter (the 300hp supercharged one Razz)

Truth be told, it is really the salt that i cant stand. Obviously i dont like the idea of falling off, but i just wanted to get the bike garaged before it actually gets cold to save on depreciation so i can get my BB next year Smile

Maybe i`m just paranoid, but i saw what january did to my brand new Bandit 1200.

Your a damned wimp, i'm biking through winter whatever the weather!

As far as quads go, my friends have a Banshee and a Raptor 700. They are both stupidly fun and very fast both on and offroad, but due to having a solid rear axle you don't turn around corners you slid the rear around them which can get a little tedious on the road, plus they are the new cool and thus huge attention magnets, which can't be good for their safety. .

There's your problem - brand new Smile. Get an already manky-looking bike for winter commuting (and other riding for that matter) and you're sorted Smile.

Like the G man says, a winter hack would be ideal. Either that or liberally coating the bike in a protective layer of FT365 (?) Scottoiler stuff or similar?

I'm using the spray at the moment and the bike comes up nice after a wash and re-apply every weekend Thumbs Up They've been gritting the roads round here for nearly a month Neutral

Correct.

For some reason I am not qualified to ride our Trike because I have a bike licence, whereas any muppet with a car licence is fine.

Do not ask how much this pisses me off on a daily basis

Fucking "Safer Motorcycling".

Motorcycle Action Group were on that study. Wankers.

Definitely try before you buy as fun in the wet a danger in the dry around corners. Also as said much slower than a bike and car in the twisties. Not to mention you will look a right tool sitting at traffic lights on your ikkle quad . . . . Bless. Mr. Green

Now if you want to take them off road thats where they come into their own. Anyone say Raptor! Thumbs Up
