had 'not for road use' filed off by the MOT bloke. Its obvious its been filed off and the exhausts are ear splitting loud. Twisted Evil
So if a copper pulls me im a bit screwed, any ideas about how to cover up the filed off bit? i dont think polishing it will help... Neutral

no im not putting a stock can on...

Used to be the case that people got done for 'Perverting the course of justice' or whatever, for those.

Polishing it out is usually surprisingly effective.

Thats only if you put it there, if you say it was like it when you bought it then the worst should be a slapped wrist. I had one on a exhaust for three years and never got into any bother over it and always went through the mot's ok.

But I agree polishing the shit out of it with autosol and a dremel or polishing wheel on a drill is just as effective Thumbs Up

I had the BSAU number stamped onto a race can on one of my old bikes.

On my can at the minute, I just polished it out with a but of 'wet and dry' and loads of autosol.

The MOT regs say that any exhaust must be no louder than the stock system in good condition would be. If your bike is really that loud the cops could also nick you for noise pollution, as they did the lads 3 doors down from me many years back.

If they believe you of course...

When the police and DoT inspectors have been pulling bikes over for "safety" checks in North Yorks & Lancashire on a weekend, they've issued rectification notices if the can is not on an approved list, so polishing out the "not for road use" stamp or fitting an illegal BS badge will cost you an MOT at best and prosecution for attempting to pervert the course of justice at worst.

Excessively noisy cans are by far the worst enemy biking has as they're the cause of the majority of complaints in the National Parks Evil or Very Mad

I will let you know when the D&D is strapped to the 1200 then Laughing

I know they dont have to believe you. The guy asked for some advice, I gave it. I'm not saying nor am I implying that it's perfectly legal but how many hundreds of bikers do you see going past on a sunday in the sun with an exhaust on so loud that you can hear it over your own wind noise, engine and can.

People will do it anyway, fact.

In the laws eyes then, polishing it out is just as bad for covering it up thus still perverting the course of justice.

I'm keeping the standard can off the Bandit to put back on in case of any such problems.
