Any ideas on whats this is worth or whats a good price for a XR650R??

You using it off road?if so far too heavy and much better kit out there ,on road ,will not give you a moments problems ,apart from the knobbleys,you dont need a 650 off road ,its all "Bertie Big bollax" i ride with everyone on no bigger than 250,we go everywhere the 400/450/525/650 do but less tiring

Unless of course you are in the desert running a Baja, where the XR650 has pretty much never been beaten. For that there is NO better kit.

However Garyd has a point, unless you want to supermoto it and run on the road then there is little point with hefting 60hp and 140kilos of XR650 around.

In terms of the thread, they are sought after bikes that really don't come up as often as their 250/400 siblings. Generally if you can get anything below 2k from 2001 onwards then you are doing pretty well.

Needs to be used for getting to work on which is why l need a big one still a better off road bike than a klr650 though


reviews seems good and there very reliable as a dual sport bike with a few mods, getting a set of supermoto wheels for road work and using the stock wheels for weekend mud play seems to be the plan.

Definitely better than a KLR650. I was looking for one supermoto'd for a commuter tool too. They give you the power of a tricked out 450 motox conversion but without the ridiculous maintenance. I think I've found something else though... Anyway, either of those looks to be a good starting point and neither are horrendously expensive, though I would prefer the dealer bike as if that 20,000 mileage on the E-bay one isn't a typo, that's quite a lot even for an XR650R.

The XR650Rs are listed at 125kg which should still be perfectly managable for a dirt bike.

Ok, it might not have quite as sprightly steering as some of the lighter bikes, but would have thought it'd be fine for 'lanes etc.

Indeed, but a reasonable comparison against other bikes which also have dry figures listed.
Ie, I have seen the XR250 listed between 108kg and 120kg dry, depending on age, electric/kickstart etc.

I'd be willing to bet the XR650 is still a bit harder to handle than a 125kg listed 250, due to more rotational inertia etc. However, should still be perfectly do-able.
Only thing I'd worry about is reliability (forget if I mentioned before) as the XR650R is closer to a (baja) competition bike.

Saying all that, I want a KTM300EXC-E; 105kg with no fuel but all other fluids, or around 100kg if you go without the 'lectric boot.

Sorry, really should have said 'maintenance' rather than reliability - as those bikes will probably be rebuilt once they've completed that 1000 miles, though of course they'll be in a bit higher state of tune.
