Posted: 16:42 - 02 Dec 2007 Post subject: How to... get a fooked superdream through an MOT |
 |
|
As you may recall my CB400N Superdream failed its MOT a little while ago and I was tempted to break it for bits. However, I'm now glad to say that it is now MOTd and on the road! I took it over to Mattsprattuk's yesterday and we treated it to some lovely, by-the-book fixes
The day didn't start too well when the bike wouldn't start (flat battery). When I had got it going it went fine, but it was only when I arrived at the Tamar bridge that Matt noticed there was something a little wrong with the rear indicators... I had obviously forgotten to put the bolts back in so one had come off (and is presumably lying on the A38 somewhere) and the other was hanging down and had melted itself on the exhaust!
Anyway, the first job was to fix the steering lock stop. The centre 'tab' had been bent somehow so the bars could touch the tank when turned to the right. Solution... stick a wood screw in a crack in the metal.
The next problem was that the rear sprocket carrier had loads of play in it. There is supposed to be one spacer holding it on, but when we took the rubber cover off there were already two. Solution? Add a third. Shame the tester didn't even look at it.
We got around the issue of the exhaust blowing because of a snapped stud by sticking a bolt wrapped in gaffer tape down the hole in the connector, and presenting the bike as 'non-running' for the MOT. I disconnected the coil around the corner from the garage and pushed it in. Fortunately the tester didn't notice that the 'non-running' engine was boiling hot... He also passed the rear wheel bearing which the bike had previously been failed on.
The bike also has bog roll under the fork seal caps. ____________________ Chris

the reason we have MOTs is because people like you cant be trusted to keep a vehicle roadworthy
you'll soon be bleating on here when some dick knocks you off youre bike because his brakes or suspension was faulty

In my humblest of humble opinions that a shit thing to do. And then to tell the world about it is ASKING for trouble!! So let me begin.
For one, lets say you died. Not as a result of this bike (which probably will kill you, but for the purpose of illustration lets say it's a bus that gets you). Your folks find your 'estate' contains this bike, which they don't want. So they give it to a dealer/sell on fleabay/give to a chuffed orphan etc. Who sees it's got an MOT. And insures it and rides it into a kitten because the forks have pissed oil over the brake disc.
And dies. AND kills the kitten.
See where this has got you? Well, you're dead already so I can't see you caring a lot, but it's still shit.
BAD Chris. |

if he lives long enough
anyone with a welder could fix the steering lock stops
a wheel bearing is about £15-20 and same for the fork seals
if the forks are badly pitted you can use a small drill bit with your fingers to nick the rust away to bare metal then wash the forks with acetone then use a cocktail stick to dab in some epoxy glue when its set use some 1200 wetndry used wet wrapped around the fork and wank it off till its nice and smooth
there is really no excuse for what youve done as you will be endangering yourself and others for the sake of a few ££
fuck fuck fuck Im starting to sound like my DAD

ha! it got you home then... and the screw held, so its obviously a long term fix
i reckon you should use something a bit more long term than bog roll though, a sock at least!
my 400 doesnt have any oil in one of the forks and its doing fine! ''that saves me a few quid''.
taxed yet?
btw, your legal on your restricted licence... 24.5lb of torque x 6000 divided by 5252 = 27.8bhp! ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. In summery, mattsprattuk is a gobby little sh1tebag, dopehead tw4t, but sadly for all of us, he probably isn't THAT full of sh1te!!
