Hi all,
before i rush out & buy a new battery.
what should my old one, read straight after coming off charge?
i think i can lay my hands on a volt/amp meter.
as i dont trust the LCD on the bike!
am i right in thinking it should be around 13.5v?
cheers,
GAZ

Straight after should be around 12.7v if fully charged. If it holds that is a different matter though.

13.5 is if it is connected and the bike is being revved.
A bit below 12v should be fine so long as it holds it,as it can go down fast
on a battery that is no good and wont hold a charge.

Paddy.

hi,
my mate reckons it should be around 13.8v?
surely hes mistaken, maybe he meant 12.8v?
some advice please!
on my bike lcd it only shows 11.1v!
which is why i was gonna invest in a voltmeter/multimeter thing.
as im led to beleive my CDI wont function till voltage teaches 11.4v!
meaning bike wont start below this.
does this sound feasible?
any advice welcome,
cheers,
GAZ

Hi

12.7v sounds about right for a healthy battery with the engine off.

11.1V sounds like a virtually dead battery. Be surprised if the engine cranked over properly at that.

All the best

Keith

led batteries have specs (when new or in top condition) :
6 elements , each is 2.2V at end of charge , 1.8V at end of discharge which is 13.2 and 10.8
the charge voltage is generaly 14.2 V with a normal condition battery

You get what you pay for with batteries IMO. If you want it to last a few years it's worth spending a little bit more on one.

And when REALLY flush, or needing to start an 1100 twin, get yourself an AGM battery, something like an 'Odyssey'. They are the dogs danglies, but they should be at the price you pay. They will however survive FAR more abuse than just about anything else.
