Sorry if I'm behind the times because looking at the date of that post it says May 19, 2007. Is this true? also will Cagiva be keeping the original 996 style fairing? even with their new shaped Mito 125 on the verge of production/sales.

That'd be because the designer who designed the Mito moved to ducati afterwards.

If it's the lump out of the comet, I suspect it's going to be a tad heavy; I presumed the whole idea of an evolved mito.

Stick some 916 fairings on a second hand SV; much cheaper and with a few mods with your spare change you'll probably have a much better bike.

cagiva actually owned Ducati when the 916 was made. My 748 handbook has got Cagiva all over it.

I've read about the guy who made a mito 4t Supermono using an XT660 lump. It was something like 134kg and a hoot to drive.

I thought it was the other way around. Tamburini(?) designed the 916, then Cagiva asked him to give the Mito the same treatment. Could be wrong.

having had a 'sung I can vouch for the engine.
If I had the money for a new bike/Comp insurance, the CBR would be on ebay in seconds and a GT650R would be in my drive.

Just a little update, it looks like they are keeping it a 500cc bike. It's a shame they are using the new bodywork though because from the pictures it looks pretty ugly to be honest...

They pulled that trick more than once.

Cagiva owned Ducati from the early eighties to the mid to late nineties.

Massimo Tamburini designed the Ducati Paso and then he designed a 125 look-a-like the Cagiva Freccia. The same happened with the Ducati 916 and the Mito Evo.

Tamburini is an engineer and a designer and is still with Cagiva/MV Agusta and he led the team that came up with the F4 and still does.

Last I heard Cagiva had dropped the idea of a 500 for the moment, and were going with 125cc Mito SP525 Stradale. There are some rumours a 500 may see the light for 2009.

EDIT: I should have read the MCN article, it pretty much mirrors what I've heard - possible production in '09.

As for the the Mito SP525 now has an electronic carburation system to meet EURO3. I've read it won't rev above 9000RPM in standard trim.

tbh.. i wouldn't buy anything from Cagiva. They have a rubbish parts service.

(3x being the only company that /officially/ imports the parts, and they struggle to get an order right or on time!) - 3weeks means 3months

Just from my previous experience with Cagiva! Thumbs Down

AFAIK 3 Cross are no longer the official importer and parts supplier for MV Agusta and Cagiva - the contract was supposed to be transferred to Moto GB on the 1st January 2008.
