i have just orderd a stomp 140 pitbike and i need to change the oil for the running in process in the 1st 2 hours.

i have some halfords oil which i bought today(10w 40) as they dident have any castrol.

it is oil cooled and has 15hp engine and iner rotor stystem so revs like a 2-stroke.

my question is is the halfords oil good enough and what is it like or should i take back and change for castroll as it is a pit biek top of the range engine.

revs at about 10,000 RPM

cheers Thumbs Up

Halfords oil is made by Esso or Comma. If you're running in, it's not important anyway. But it's not shit stuff. Thumbs Up

Oh and for the running period, I would guess that anything like 10,000 rpm will severely shorten it's life expectancy.

Well oil is a subject you could get bored with quite quickly! My summation is that engine manufacturers have an alliance with a particular brand (and indeed type) of oil, and it's best to stick to that. There are loads of additives for cleaning and wear reduction they put in the oil, and the engine manufacturers will bear this as a factor when they design the kit, you see...

Castrol is pretty much the market leader and they didn't get there by being rubbish, so you won't be doing any harm with that.

If the manual recommends a particular oil, get that. If not, you can't got far wrong with Castrol. If you can't stretch to Castrol, get Halfords. It's miles better than the supermarket crap.

I use Halfords semi-synthetic all the time and have for years, nothing wrong with it although for high performance sports bike I'd use the fully synthetic.

I personally think it's much more important to do frequent oil changes.

i worked in the castrol and mobil oil blending plants in new zealand, and you'd be surprised at the so called "crappy brands" that they produce Very Happy i have no issues using non branded oil at all, i would rather pay £10 for 5 litres and do an oil change twice as often Very Happy
