Hiya, am afraid im moving onto a car, for a bit, which is a decision i know im gunna regret in the summer, but anyways..

ive got one years no claims on bike, and i know on some companys you can use it for cars, and i just got a few questions.. which hopefully should save me ringing up all the insurance companies..

I know churchill, tesco ( 20yrs+ ) and direct line, all allow you to use your motorbike NCB for car, anyone know any others ?

Would it be the same as car 1 years, eg 30 % off?

And last question, when filling out on churchill you have to put that you have had your lisence for 1 year, to be able to put the 1 years NCB, When ive got the car and ring up, as im going to have to, would this make the price more expensive? and if so would it make the premium noticably different.

Thanks Thumbs Up

Just ring them up and ask - you'll get a quicker answer that way.

Also bear in mind that you won't be able to use it on the bike if you've used it on a car.

Only slightly OT, does it work the other way too? I've got nearly 2 years (will be 2 before I take my full bike test) NCB on a car license, in fact because I did Pass Plus my insurers actually count that as an extra years NCB. Will I be able to transfer the two years NCB over to a bike when I get one? Not too fussed about the CG but I was thinking more if I get a big bike.

I dont think so, i think its only from bike > car, not the other way round.

When you phone them up mention that you tried to do it online and they will apply the 10% or so discount to your quote.
I think Ecar do it too but they are online only.

Endless your not going to want to loose car no claims. Bike's are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper in comparison so your going to want to hang on to your precious car NCB for as long as possible.

I'm very unlikely to be driving for the next 3 years at least- a big factor in getting a bike is that I'm currently at uni and cant afford to keep a car here/ to run it. I'm likely to be at uni for another 3 years so it's not such an issue. I'll be nearly 22 when I'm looking to getting a car again and will have held a license for 5 years so insurance shouldnt be too bad by then. Anyway I'll be either buying an old banger or another Land Rover when I do, so insurance will be cheap anyway.
It's now that I need to save as much as possible!

Ok Uni does make a difference make sure you will actually be using the bike though.
I bought mine and then realised EVERYTHING i needed was within walking distance and so its gone back home now.

Just out of interest what are you studying and where?

First year of a Beng mechanical engineering course in Plymouth.

If I was at home I probably wouldnt bother with a bike, if I did it would just be a weekend toy.

Here though, although uni is 10 mins walk and the shopping centre is only 15, Morrisons is 45mins out of town which is a bit far to carry armfuls of cheap student food back, and more importantly a bike brings Dartmoor into reach and lets me escape from the city. As a born and bred country boy I feel a bit claustrophobic stuck in the centre of a city sometimes! Be nice to have a bit of freedom at weekends/ sunny evenings to go and explore the countryside. I love/ miss driving and hope I'll love riding even more!

would not having a lisence for a year effect the premium by much?
