Simple poll, who trusts them on reasonable power bikes?

Ive got a 600 and im in two minds. But i never have to buy new front tyres if you catch my drift, so it could be abit of an extra risk.

Please only vote for a fair capacity bike, obviously 50cc'sand cg125 could get away with it.

fitted to soft links myself and had no worried on 400's, so i guess a soft link is better, i know there was a poll about split links a while ago and it was said split links are a bit of a lucky dip they either do or dont.

Hi

Had them on plenty of bikes. FZ750 has one on at the moment. Charlottes GPZ500 had one on the last chain before it got nicked.

Do worry about them a bit, but also worry about a rivit link as well. At least you can see that a clip is in place holding the link on.

Mine snapped the other day leaving me without power in the middle of the A6, and a chain wrapped 3 times around the front sprocket digging into the sprocket guard.

But I didn't know you could get 'em riveted!

Wouldn't be too bothered on a lower capacity bike like a 250/400 or maybe up to 600 as long as its commuter style. Wouldn't trust 'em on a sportsbike.

One of my first mechanic mates installed a basic fear of split-link chains, i would always go for a riveted link over split-link just for peace of mind. I have ridden on and would if needed ride a bike with a split link chain.

4 bikes, countless miles and all of them have had split links. never ever had one fail.

The only chain ive ever had fail was on my bandit 400 and that was because the garage didnt rivet it correctly. Done all my own since then.

Had 2 chains brake on me one on a zzr600 and one a zx6r both had split links but broke in different places.

Doesn't bother me much, i recall one of my split link clips being glued onto the chain link because it was a tad loose
