To people looking to/wanting to/trying to find motivation for losing weight, have a look here. Look just for the sake of it if none of the above applies. Truly inspiring, not many people could do that!

Wow Shocked Shocked Shocked

I'd like to lose a bit of "weight", by that I mean a slightly premature beer belly. I'm in the gym 5 days a week but do no cardiovascular work, just weights. No surprise I'm thirteen and a half stone and only 5 foot 5 inches. Laughing

I lost 2 stone in 5 weeks or so. Heavy recreational drug use and not eating for days at a time is the key. Haven't put any back on! Who says drugs are bad.

My story...

I joined the ranks of the morbidly obese a couple of years ago. I had giving up smoking and generally become a greedy, lazy bar steward and weighed in at 21 stone! Shocked (it shocks me just to think about that)

Here's a pic (Xmas 2005):
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v158/dance_like_a_monkey/DSCF0008.jpg

I was having problems with my leg and saw the doctor on August 14th 2006 and was told I needed an op, but they couldn't do it until I got my weight down to 14 1/2 stone. Not an easy task, but I joined Tesco eDiets, started walking to work and using my exercise bike and weights as much as possible.

12 months later...

This is a pic of me just after my op and almost 7 stone lighter. It was taken almost exactly a year after my first weigh in. Excuse the picture I was only 3 hours out of surgery and meant to be recovering back home hence the tights and the grimace of pain - plus being ugly doesn't help when it comes to having a nice photo taken! Laughing
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v158/dance_like_a_monkey/n615058633_112276_1477.jpg

The weight's gone up a little since then (I'm about 15 stone now), but that was mainly due to the fact I was inactive for 3 weeks sans surgery so the weight just piled on.

Back to the exercise and weights now though. My aim is to get to 13 stone. That is not going to be easy now the main motivation has gone - but I'll get there!

I think of myself as a pretty good success story, I was chubby/fat all the way through school and my first two years of college, weighing in at a hefty 16 stone (6' 3") in april 2007.

Basically decided enough was enough and that I wanted to be able to go swimming etc without fretting about my moobs that summer, also, a spectacular love interest entered my world....

After 6 months of not so much a diet, as just eating plain less, and really heavy gym use (5 days a week), cutting out lots of the beer and joining the TA, I got down to just over 12 stone.. and there I have stayed!

Best thing I ever did. Ever. Mr. Green

I lost approx seven stone and dropped from a size 28 to a size 14. I say approx as I never weighed myself when I was at my biggest, didn't even own a pair of scales, it was just too depressing.

I did it by changing my lifestyle and eating habits, and I have kept it off for over two and a half years as a result. Thumbs Up

Essential body fat is 3-4%

The ''Ripped'' look sits around the <10% mark.

I'd get that professionally checked wave, but that is too low, professional bodybuilders don't even go that low.

Quote:
Your ideal weight and fat-lean ratio varies considerably for men and women and by age, but the minimum percent of body fat considered safe for good health is 5 percent for males and 12 percent for females. The average adult body fat is closer to 15-18 percent for men and 22-25 percent for women.

Athletes tend to be at low end of this scale due to their increased lean weight (muscle mass). While low levels of body fat seem to be related to improved performance, body composition alone is not a great predictor of sports success. A linebacker needs to have enough body mass (lean and fat weight) to generate high forces and avoid injury. Body fat among elite athletes vary largely by sport. There is little evidence of any benefit when men drop under 8 percent and women drop under 14 percent body fat.

Typical levels.

Men:

Contest bodybuilder: 3-5%
Extremely lean: 6-9%
Lean: 10-15%
Average Male: 16-20%
Poor: 20-25%
Very Poor: 25%+

Women:

Fitness model/bodybuilder: 8-11%
Extremely lean: 12-15%
Lean: 16-19%
Average female: 20-25%
Poor: 25-29%
Very Poor: 30%+

I need to gain weight.

I'm just a touch over 6ft and weight 10 stone. Perhaps I should be happy that I can stuff my face with as much food as I want and not gain a pound. But I'm not.
