 |
|
Hmm, thinking of buying a new set of sports boots, and cant stretch my budget of £120, to a goretex version of any. Have considered goretex touring boots, but really need the benefits of replaceable sliders, and ankle support.
So my question is this; provided there are no mesh panels for ventilation on the boots, could they be made fairly watertight, at least for a while with liberal coatings of wax? And if so, what wax is best? Any other suitable forms of waterproofing?

Ten quid over budget but they are properly WATERPROOF. and the toe scraper is changeable, with ankle protection comfort blah blah... my left one squeaks like a bastard though!. Very good all weather boots.

Otherwise like chris says overboot liners are your best bet, I dont have much faith in the wax idea... |

Cheers Don, couldnt find these anywhere for that price! Whats the sizing like? I usually wear size 10ish, but sometimes 9's, and the sidi's are only on there in the small size, or what equates to 11. Have heard they come up small so would sidi 11 worn with thick socks fit like a 10?
Christ, far too many digits in the above...
*edit, just noticed theyre not the goretex version, doh! Are they still waterproof, just without the windproof qualities? ____________________ TL1000s, KDX200 |

The main problem is not the boot material, most modern materials will put up with an hour of rain. It's the zips and velcro where the water gets in so it would not really make a lot of difference covering them in wax.
Oxtar do a waterproof sports boot (All weather sports touring boot. Lorica upper, Oxtar waterproof membrane, Shin and ankle protectors, two part replaceable toe ...), currently on sale for £99.57
I've got the standard ones and they are pretty good boots.

Hmm thats very strange... I thought there was only one model of Sidi B2, a goretex waterproof one... I guess i was wrong, that website doesent mention anything about waterproofness does it...
I did wonder why they were so cheap...
Without looking hard:
https://www.dhautos.co.uk/sidi-b2-goretex-waterproof-boots-454-p.asp
I reckon around 160 in a shop if you haggle, thats what i got em for... Over budget by a bit but if you can stretch at all, they are what you are looking for...
sorry about the fuckup there... |

Cheers for all the suggestions, have looked at a few oxtar's, and the overboots, but by chance found a bristol bike shop selling some waterproof teknic violators for £115 instead of the £150 everyone else is asking. Result! ____________________ TL1000s, KDX200 |

Those Oxtar boots look pretty similar (minis the toe sliders) to the Sidi's I picked up at the bikeshow for under £100. Quite a light but stiff boot, so just learning how to change gear properly again.. .
