My friend's getting an '82 CG this sunday (I'm collecting it from 95 miles away, yaay) and since I can;t sleep I thought I'd have some fun with a pictire of one.

closest datewise I could get that had a decent side on pic was this '81 one:
https://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d170/tristanthe/cg.jpg
First I had to strip away the background, awesome fun.
https://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d170/tristanthe/cg-standard.jpg
Next I decided to go for a bit of a custom, I'd of liked to of played with the rake and trail a little, but as it's paint I didnt want to feck it up and not be able to fix it.
https://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d170/tristanthe/cg-custom.jpg
Now something more ratbike than custom, needs something to act as a tank and some form of air filter on the carb.
https://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d170/tristanthe/cg-verycustom.jpg
And finally, my favorite, the cafe racer, clip ons, flat seat and rearsets. Thrilling.
https://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d170/tristanthe/cg-caferacer.jpg

Well there we go. Just a silly bit of fun really. Unfortunatley paint kept changing the size of the file when I saved it, shrinking it so I lost a bit of detail, which was annoying.

Hopefully I can nab a play around on Photoshop at some point, to get some colour chemes and stuff.

Very nice. Thankyou. Funny, I was thinking of trying the same thing, although not quite so early in the morning. At least I know why you werent in maths this morning anyway Rolling Eyes

I'm liking the custom idea. To the world of BCF in general, if my chromework is as fecked as I'm predicting it'll be then it'll get chopped off and painted black to make a sort of rat- bobber. I'd also quite like to stick some higher bars on and drop the seat height slightly. Have to see what's possible when I get the bike.

Ahh, now I'd seen that one and it looks awsome. Someone really should make a kit for that- It'd sell better than CBR's do- its the same basic bike yet it looks far cooler!

My bike however is a 1982 one, which is a totally different shape, hence Tristan's ideas above.

I've had a go as well, as I know exactly whats going on in my head. I quite fancy something like this, although the bars are a bit too OTT. Somewhere between a bobber (chopped mudguards and high bars) and a cafe racer (short seat and rear mudguardish bit).

https://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y66/brianthesnail96/bobbedcg.jpg

Original photo/ shape:

https://www.geocities.com/webbike2000/honda/cg125.jpg

I think it's feasable, although I'd have to try and make a few bits such as the new battery covers and the tailpiece. The seat could probably be chopped down from a standard one and recovered. Front mudguard would be easiest made by chopping down a plastic one I think. Clocks would be relocated on a new bracket, and a smaller headlight should be an easy enough fit. Higher bars should be a straight swap, would need some new cables though. Exhaust would be made up out of whatever I can find. A standard one would look far too long. Tail light and rear indicators could hide inside the tailpiece, front indicators would go wherever looks tidy!

It'll probably never happen, but it's always good to have ideas! And I prefer paint to the CAD program I'm supposed to be doing coursework on Rolling Eyes

If anyone wants to try a photoshop or something of my idea that'd be awsome, I'd love you forever (maybe) and will bless your posts with Karma (possibly).
Seriously, if anyone fancies having a better go it'd be much appreciated.

I'm so doing the Cafe Racer thing when I get a CG... except it'll be a bit more 'budget' than my computer mock-up. And it'll be based on an older model, probably early 90s. Whatever you can get for £500...

I like the looks of that 82 CG at the head of the thread Thumbs Up Best thing to do if you're drawing in MS paint is keep saving everything as bitmaps, for an image that small they won't take up too much space anyway. JPEGS are always saved at 70% quality or something so by the n'th save they look grainy.

What age of CG are you planning to meddle with?

I have been tempted by a CB125 too... there are some gorgeous Cafe Racers of those about on t'internet... and looking on eBay, CBs are often quite cheap too.

that red one is nice, the frame is very nice! am tempted on the cafe look but i want it to be different, so dont know yet, also how do i get that little hump? thing is tho it would have to be removable so when the OH wants to go somewhere i can take it off and its a 2 seater again or have on that is able to carry 2.

I assume changing the seat wouldn't be too bad... I guess if it uses the same fixings as the original you could chop and change it at will.

Far as I know some sites sell the single racing seats. Or you could buy a cheapo one off ebay and hack it up, make your own seat.

I agree though, that silver/red one looks awesome.

the bike i have is a 88-89 one, so will see what i can do to it Twisted Evil ! i want to go with a red and white style, as thats by far my fave!!!
will have to look into parts as am not up on cafe racers, i've read about a bloke who had a 750 cafe racer and he used pipes off a set of swiming pool laders for exhaust! that was neat!

Both of they are beautiful! The CB125s is a far prettier bike than the CG in my opinion. I was offered one when I was 16 to tidy up and ride when I was 17 for a couple of hundred. I wanted it big time, but parents put their feet down and refused to lend me the money Sad

Still think the early CG's are the nicest in standard trim. I'm tempted to cafe racer as I wouldnt be taking pillions, but I reckon I'm probably too lanky and with rearsets and clip ons I'd end up scrumpled up a bit! High bars and mebbe forward controls if I can be bothered would give me more room. Might try go for a flat tracker look instead though- whatever, it'll have to be old skool!

Watch this space. If Tristan doesnt get blown into a ditch on sunday my '82 should be here sunday

Bikepics is defintiely your friend... it seems that quite a few people have taken on CG projects... found this under 82:

https://w1.bikepics.com/pics/2006%5C09%5C17%5Cbikepics-681269-full.jpg

Barely even recognisable as a CG!

I'd spotted that before, it's where I got my inspiration from. I really want an old school bobber but I cant be arsed; it'd be waaay too much hassle. I'll save it for when I get a big bike and just do lazy mods to the CG I think. There's nowt too serious changed on the bike pics one, just the mudguards, seat, bars and battery box cover.
