Zim's computer's gone on the blink so I'd better explain - we were riding home from Chelsea Bridge yesterday and as we came around Richmond Circus a minicab driver tried a bit of a funky manouver, cut Zim up causing him to clip the back of the car and go over. I'm sure he'll explain it better when he gets back online, I didn't see the actual crash as I was further up the road and by the time I'd turned around they'd already got over to the side of the road.

Zim's not hurt but the pillion (Nicky, whom we'd gone to Chelsea with) got a bit of road rash on his hands (no gloves) and mashed his ankle up a bit. Last I heard from him he'd gone to casualty this morning to get checked out.

The kick in the teeth for Zim is that the bacon turned up straight away and handed him a producer - and as everyone knows by know Zim's not exactly insured, so he could be in a bit of a mess.

The ZXR is pretty bashed up, the front plastics are mangled and the left side has slide damage. He's also worn a hole in the crankcase causing it to spit oil everywhere, and broke the ends of the clutch and gear levers. No damage to his gear apart from the helmet which has a chunk taken out of it by the floor.

<i told you so mode>
If he'd been insured he could have had all the damage from this and previous stacks paid for by the other guy's insurance, since the cabbie was at fault... As it stands he's got a good chance of losing his license and no choice but to pay for the damage to both vehicles himself. Insurance might be expensive but it's not something you should go without.
</i told you so mode>

Anyways, get well soon Zim+Bike+Nicky...

Thats harsh. If you dont have insurance then you should have to pay for damage to other vehicles if it was your fault, but it sounds like it wasnt. Any estimate on the damage, crankcase makes it sound like it was quite a bad crash.......
N e way hope you get off the hook with the police.

Someone I used to know rode a bandit 1200, no insurance, he'd actually got stopped a few times.. but they just wanted to search him (he had been in prison for a month or two for dealing) and didn't bother checking up on the bike.
Riding along with a pillion a car pulled out infront of him as he was coming round a bend fairly fast. He braked to hard and went over the front, catapulting the pillion overhim, the bike flipped and landed on him.
In teh end he couldn't prove that the otehr driver was to blame, but still managed to claime of the fund set up for uninsured drivers/riders who cause accidents/accidents (with a no win/no fee solictor), even though he didn't have insurance himself.
The police didn't give him any hassle... but then he was pretty beat up (a few broken rivers and a broken arm if I remember).

It might be worth him getting some sort of legal advice (even if it is just tfrom the CAB) to see what he can get a away with.

....... and it should reduce insurance costs as well cos they'll be paying out less. Bastards probably wouldn't pass the savings on like that though Evil or Very Mad

I spoke to Zim not long ago.....and he said he was getting insurance from the beginning of the month (1st June) so lets hope he actually did, but from what Korn said I don't think that's the case.

I don't suppose if Zim contacts the cab driver and says the damage wasn't as bad as first thought and a £200 cash sum will settle it would cancel everything including the producer would it??? I don't know about these things.....

maybe not extreme, but compare it to what it should be and you'll soon see all the ££££'s of damage lurkin about.

Plus don't know if it just applies to me....but I know where every little scratch is on my bike (and the bigguns Embarassed) and it will never be the same in my opinion. Sad

I really hope zimma doesnt lose his licence from this, and the bodywork will cost a bit that is ontop of paying for everything else.
