PostPosted: 01:18 - 03 Dec 2003    Post subject: Theory test Reply with quote

I'm currently taking driving lessons (only because my mum's paying for them) and I have my theory test booked for the 15th December (going to move that date because I haven't revised for it).

Anyway, I was wondering wether I would need to take the theory test again if I want to take my bike test? (Providing I pass it)

I'm in no hurry to pass my driving test but as soon as I've done that I'm going to book a few bike lessons and go for the test.

Any info would be good.

Thanks

Hi,

In answer to your question, yes you would need to take another Theory Test.

Cheers,

Will

The car and the bike tests have some questions in common, but also some different questions. As far as I know you would have to do the hazard perception twice as well, although this seems silly to me as I bet it is identical for both the bike and car tests.

If you've got your car one booked for the 15th you should have plenty of time to get some revision in before hand, the tests really aren't that hard. If you Google for 'mock driving theory tests' you should find a load you can practice on. When I did my car one I just found a couple of sites both of which has a different mock test available each day of the week. I did a couple of tests every day for about a week before the test and by the time I did the test I was fairly confident about passing.

For the hazard perception part (for which as far as I know there if not an accurate mock up available on line) I would advise clicking on anything you even have the slightest suspicion might cause you to slow down, stop or change direction. As long as you don't click more than once a second this won't be a problem.

To be honest the best way to do your theory tests would be to try and book them back to back, as many of the questions are the same or similar you would only need to revise once.

I have tried the online theory test and first time without reading any books got 25/35.

Some of the questions were repeated in the same test and some the same thing just in a different question.
Anyway did it a few times and was still getting 25, 26, 27/35 and eventually a 31/45.

I can't find the hazard perceptions test anywhere online but I'ss see if I can get hold of a disc off someone who has recently passed their driving test.

Thanks for the information, been helpful.

/me gets practicing. Very Happy

A lot of the possible questions for the written driving theory, are just the same questions rephrased. As far as I know the questions you find in the mock test are from the same same selection as the actual test, so if you can just memorise them you should be ok. Things worth paying attention to are things like stopping distances, as there will be one question regarding them in the actual test.

I managed to find a dodgy computer generated one when I looked before doing my test, but it wasn't at all realistic, waste of time really. Apparently the DVLA are not releasing the video they use in the test for people to make mock ones with, so the only way to get a realistic mock up will be to buy the DVLA's cd rom.

The main thing is to not be nervous and to take your time, both times I've done the theory test I've finished after about 20-25 minutes, but I've forced myself to stay in there for the full 45 minutes and double or triple checked all my answers for the written part.

If you're not intending to do your car theory test you could always specify 'motorcycle' when you're rebooking your theory test and hope your parents don't notice Very Happy.

Good thinking Batman! Laughing

Really it seems a bit pointless having to do two because most of it will be the same. I suppose the bike one will have different things on it like erm... yeah Confused I'll have to have a look into my bike theory see if its much different.

Thanks again.

I took my my car theory test today and passed. Very Happy

33 out of 35 on the multiple choice section.

59 out of 75 on the hazard perception.

Quite pleased actually, I thought I didn't click enough times on the hazard perception.

Bike Theory will be booked a.s.a.p.

Congrats beefmeister, have a beer on me. Very Happy

You'll do fine on the bike test, the questions difer slightly, but as far as I know the hazard perception bike clips are just like the car ones, even in a car, when it's a bike test... which is what I found strange. Confused

In your first post you seem almost embarrassed to be taking car lessons?! why?

Just curious that's all.

I don't really want a car but my mum said that it'll come in handy one day, which I suppose is true.

I shouldn't really be complaining, I'm not paying for the lessons/tests etc so I might aswell get it done with.

On the other hand I've got to pay for my bike licence/lessons/tests etc.
All worth it though as I'm sure you'll all tell me (those who have passed their test).

Anyway, well done me. Very Happy

Well done. They say it takes you the same amount of lessons as your age(unless ur just plain crap) getting it out of the way is the best thing to do. I bet most people here that didn't wish they had now!

Yep. It is a bugger to carry home a spare engine on the back of a bike (and we have done that, 2 up on an Aprilia with Charlotte carrying the engine).

All the best
