What would you recommend? using my own bike or the rentals? I ask because I'm guessing the learner bikes will be smaller (eg CG125?) and a lot easier to ride, I don't really think my RS125 enjoys pootling along to be honest, it always begs for a bit of a thrashing with it's 2 stroke engine and that obviously will not be suitable for the test.

Also if a 'theoretical friend' had a fully derestricted RS125 would there be any checks before doing the lessons/test to see if it's restricted for a learner? are there any tell tale signs that I don't know of, on a restricted bike, (the bike is still running the stock pipe and air filter).
Finally what bikes do they tend to use as the rentals for the test (I'll be doing the 33bhp test). Thanks for any help in advance... Mr. Green

Use their bike, a boy racer on a de-restricted 2t is going to so piss the examiner off.

i agree with the others - use a rental bike and get a couple of lessons in first. thing is, the RS125 requires a racing attitude to riding and that will fail you on your test - plus the U-turn! the RS doesnt have a great steering lock and the petrol tank can be in the way plus its likely to be heavier than the rental will be. and if you dropped it on the u-turn you'd be gutted. atleast if you drop a rental bike it isnt your worry as they expect that anyway.
im doing my bike on a 4 stoke 125 next week and though i hat everything about it, the riding position, the throttle, the engine, the looks, the beeping indicators (good for stopping you leaving them on though) and the feel of the rear brake, it still seems to be a good bike to do the test on. couldnt tell you what it is though - some imported 4 stroke 125.

If you do go for your test on the RS then make sure that you have proof that it is restricted, otherwise the examiner may well refuse to test you and you will forfeit the fee.

Use theirs, purely for the U-turn and better steering lock in town. I guess that's what my mate's on 125 strokers did. It would be slightly cumbersome doing the manoevers anyway.

Use a rental, if your bike is anything like an NSR, which I bet it is, U-turns are difficult. When you are under pressure it becomes harder to do them.

The test center bikes will do a U-turn within your own lane with no issues, so just use one of theirs. If nothing else you get to piss about on someone elses bike for a couple of days, and they are a lot of fun to ride, I still have fond memories of just getting the yamaha SR125 i was using to do 70 on a dual carriage way Very Happy.

When my did my test a few years ago, local center wouldn't allow RS125's or mito's due to the huge amount of derestricted ones about, and they had no way to *prove* that it was derestricted on the day.

All the best. Thumbs Up

Well, looks like I will be using a rental then! I don't mind too much though, the RS125 just seems to hate to 'go slowly' and is always begging to be revved silly whilst a small 4 stroke 125 has slow cautious riding written all over it! Very Happy

Thanks for all the help people! Karma Mr. Green

Can't help you with most of what you asked, But I done my test on a DT125, They don't even mention restriction from what I remember, My bike wasn't restricted anyways.

Infact, I got 2 minors for not accelerating fast enough on a dual carriageway. Shocked
