Derestricting a 1988 Honda SH50 City Express

My brother has one of these and it will only do 28mph, he just wants a little more speed, 35-40mph.

Any ideas?

been looking around and some say it is not de-restrictable but others say it is very hard. No info on how to do it though.

Im waiting on a Technigas exhaust and new variator set up for my sh50 so one on il let you know if any difference. should be done in the next 2 weeks.

Does a city express have a variator? I always thought they used an expanding shoe clutch.

Maybe the newer ones don't?

Still waiting ...Parts should be with me next week only found out that Italy supplier SHUTS for August...wtf. Any way sh50 does have a Variator drive. Looking to slightly drop the roller weight and get some more acceleration from a derestricted exhaust. Not looking to have the bike looking like Street hawk lol (remember that tv show) anyway il keep all you 50cc guys and galls updated, Wish i had took up bikeing years ago.

Ok finally recived my Malossi Variator kit, rollers, drive plate, ram plate belt, and rear clutch spring. £65

Ok easy enough to fit until the local chavs came along "what you doin???" after telling them to fuk of f...down to work fitted in 1 hour or so and have to say much better acceleration from start. also accelerates more constant.

where i was getting 27mph on straight now 35mph
down hill 35mph now 41 mph
up hill the same 25mph but acceleration is still there much better.
only down side is the engine is a bit revy but thats not all that bad.

so it is worth doing! Still to recive the technigas exhaust which i have been told is commin before friday.... so should expect to have some more out the bike but not expecting silly speeds. would be happy with 45mph.

nitromethylene and petrol mix. My mate tried that on his MiniMoto and it just didnt start Plus it gubbed the spark plug.

shammon: I have a 1985 Honda SH50 and i'm looking into doing the same urgrade as you to gain a bit more speed. What year is the sh50 that you fitted the variator to? Also have you fitted the exhaust you mentioned that you were getting? And have you seen any improvement in performance with it?

i no this post is a bit old now, but i was just searching google about this bike, as for owning it for just 1day, i blew it up lmao... I bought the bike as a non runner for a tenner, as it only went 5mph tops lol, i changed the rollers, and made a techniegas scooter exhaust fit, i was doing 40-45 on it for about 25mins and its gone BANG.. lol... going to strip her down tomaro, and see if its rebuildable for a good price... you can derestrict the standard exhaust, on this one it had a washer on the manifold that can be bashed out...
