Is a large body, on an elliptical orbit, going to transit our solar system, as it supposedly does on a regular basis, and trash the planet in 2012?
There are variations on the theory. This one is particularly good:

I'm still waiting for the millenium bug.
and that polarisation that is going to turn us inside out and upside down and make us poo and wee and be sick all at the same time. If it happens, it happens, but space is very big and we are very small.
Best bet? Love, love, love ____________________ BCF's 6th favourite poster 2009-2010
Harold_Shand's theory might be the best explanation. |

It's kind of like it can't be possible, because science fiction is the only evidence we've ever seen of such things, and once it's been portrayed as science fiction it can never be real. "Sci Fi got there first, so it can only ever be sci fi thereafter".
We do all seem to have this inate faith that while bad stuff can happen on the earth, nothing can ever end it (and us). Like we're so special and absolute that there must be god's hand shielding us from an ultimate end.
Then you look into the night sky, at the 'infinite universe', and think "Well, that's like totally fvcking insane and impossible too!"
Oh what it is to be so totally ignorant of what we are and why we are. An insignificant accident, liable to be extinguished by the first meaningless bit of rock that hits our planet, or god's own special race, created by the same being that created the universe and under his divine protection?
And then you hit 70 and die. WTF?! What was that all about? Purpose? Meaning? Hello?
I have to say, I fvcking resent it sometimes, I really do. "You can ask all the important questions, but you'll never get an answer". Well thanks. Thanks for a blip of apparently meaningless existence, shrouded in an impenetrable cloak of total ignorance. Quality.
And what an existence. Surrounded by fvcking lunatics, disease, bacteria, virii, parasites, starvation and natural disasters galore. It's a pukka playground, ain't it? It's a nuthouse is what it is.
It would seem clear that as there are no answers, and never will be, the questions aren't meant to be asked. And if we're just animals who became sapient by accident it's of no suprise. We're supposed to just keep our heads down and be happy living in tepees, hunting for dinner.
What a jip. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |
