how do you change the oil on the cg? where is the filter? where do you put the new oil in? I'm guessing in where the dip stick is? Need to change mine too soon.

I'm not going to retype what I wrote in another thread so here is the link and a quote.

xr's only have one drain plug , its on the left hand side as you sit on the bike , under the gear leaver and to the left a bit , it's a 24mm cap with a re usable rubber seal , under the cap is a spring and a gause thimble. I hope you cleaned any bits of swarf off the Thimble ?
Then it's just a case of putting the cap back , be carfull not to cross thread it , they break REALLY easily and will set you back £5 each.
If you do ever fuck the oil drain cap up , remove one of your tappet caps and put the oil drain one on the tappet and tappet one on the oil drain, then get to a garage and sort it out properly. (that is a "get you to the garage only" type bodge btw.

Xr's use the same engine casings as a cg.
Thumbs Up

sorry to shoot you down in flames again on the same thread but your wrong again, the oil drain bolt is directly at the bottom of the engine with a metal stub to the front of it to give some protection, if i recall its a 17mm head. you need to take out your dipstick, get a drain can under it then remove the bolt, then once its done put the bolt back in and refill.
Cheers
John

No

Use non synthetic oil, asdas own is a good one.. for one there no point (because its simply not in long enough), for another it will very likely fuck your clutch and another its a total waste of money.

As to where, SOME cgs don't have a drain but others do the japanese models afaik, check the underside, brazilian models (more recent ones i couldn't say) have no drain so its the 24mm cap.. which is made of cheese so take care.

the 2004 and on ones are just the 24mm cap, which yes, i can confirm is made of cheese. Hard cheese (Gruyere or thereabouts), but cheese nonetheless.

Who the heck mentioned Synthetic?

He said SEMI-Synthetic.

It's what most bike manufacturers tell you to use, no? It certainly tells me to use 10W-40 Semi-Synth in my Honda manual for my cbr.

All oils have some degree of synthetic content, fully having the highest and semi having quite a bit.

Synthetic car oil particularly has additives known as friction inhibitors.. now how to wet clutches work? some you'll get away with it but why risk especially given the gain being, well, fuck all.

Bike oils, synthetics, are fucking expensive. The point of them is they prolong service intervals, if your changing the oil every 1000 miles that rather defeats the point.

Its like flying to Hungary to kill geese by choking them with Siberian tiger fur.. to feed your dog.. your dog will eat pig labia in gravy its entire life and be a perfectly happy dog all its days, in fact goose may well give it the shits.
