A Kawasaki KC100 which I learn't basic controls on, only kept it for a few weeks though as the 6v battery was crap, I consider my next bike as my first bike, a Honda 125 superdream, way back in 1985!!

good luck with your search, a lot of the lads on here ride a 125, they will give you a better idea of a good first bike.

Back in the dark days of 1995, just after passing my CBT, I got one of these on an F plate (1989) for my 16th birthday for about £300 quid.

https://hem.passagen.se/yodla/yamahadt50.jpg

A Yamaha DT 50. Never wanted a twist and go as back then, much more than now, the selection available was:

a) A bit gay looking

and

b)I wanted to get onto the bigger bikes asap, no A1, DAS, etc. then, so as soon as I passed at 17 I'd be licensed to ride anything I could afford to insure, so thought it best to learn clutch and gears straight away, even if it did mean upchanges every 6 mph Mr. Green

Loved it, blew up three engines in one year on it, and it was derestricted so it would piss all over my mate Dave's AR50, and Rich's Piaggio...something (wasn't a Typhoon). Ah, the joys of topping out at 45, maybe 48 mph Very Happy I miss you, F590 NBL...

Once I passed I got one of these beasts, a Honda NSR 250 MC16, as my first "big" bike, bought for £1700 quid in mint condition! And I'd kill to have one again, but their prices these days seem to have sky rocketed Sad

Awesome bike, and far too fast for me as a 17 year old with very little experience Wink

My first road legal bike was this:

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/Pic-0033.jpg

Hongdou gy125 (chinese import crap)

Then i got IMO the best 125cc bike money can buy:

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/mydtrnew.jpg

Then my next was this:

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/DSC00002600x450.jpg

The far one.(not the crappy aprillia 125)
Hyosung comet gt125,and it's the bike i would advise anyone to buy as a first road bike.

The dtr is not great if you dont like greenlaning.

Good luck with the search.

1982 Honda CG125. It's just turned up, pictures tomorrow when its daylight.
Tristan_the (bless his little cotton socks) rode the thing from Yeovil to Plymouth for me, in the horrible weather we've had this afternoon. Didnt get here 'till half 5 so it's dark. Might try and get a photo shortly.

First was a Motoroma Wasp. Picked it up dirt cheap and rode it into the ground
https://motorbikes.tiscali.co.uk/motospecs/img200/3401_0.jpg

First (and only to date) geared bike, my Yamaha TW125, which is a lovely bike, and a bit differentto the usual CG/RS etc. that most learners seem to have.
