Where to buy 400's?

Does anybody know of any dealers, in the South preferably, that sell or specialise in 400's?

My budget will buy me a 600 that's a bit of a shitter, or a 400 which is half way decent, so i'm hoping to get a 400 to last a year or two. That and insurance on a 600 is exorbitant as i'm only 20!

I'm based in Southampton and the only shops in the area don't sell 400's. If the odd showroom does have one in it's always a dog

you can buy em everywhere the honda's are ten a penny. depends what your after really. you can buy a good SRAD 600 for £1500 or even £1000 in the right places. its all about hagglin and looking.

BAT motorcycles on the M25, tis a tad far but hey Southampton isn't that far, they used to have lots of 400s dead over priced too, but kate wouldn't say a bad word against them ,

or just fly oop north and buy a 600 , you can get a CBR600F4I in good condition <20K on the clocks for £1700-2300 ,

As they are getting on a bit most of them will be via private sales or egay as dealers don't like to fill showrooms with horrible old shite. You can get a bigger, better bike than a 400 for very little cash. A CBR600 or oil cooled Gixxer 750 will cost about the same and be elligable for classic (cheap) insurance.

Binge is selling his for 800, PM him Natasha. I think Elliotts motorcycles specialise in Jap imports and they did most of the work on my zxr250. Just google them. If i remember correctly, they are in swindon or somewhere. But i'd say PM binge - he's got a CBR400 and VFR400 that he's planning to get rid off to fund his hornet/streetfighter/stunter project.

Dont even look a dealers for 400's as they put a premium on them as they will tell you they are rare.

If you want a 400 go private but try and find someone who knows about them to take with you.

Main thing Natasha is take your time. Especially in the next few weeks, there should be some incredible deals coming up. Keep looking and you'll find the ideal bike for you. I spent 4 weeks looking for a car for my wife and 2.5 weeks finding a car for my dad, ended up getting a fully-loaded P-reg Scorpio for £400 with a years test.

alright folks,
it doesnt have to be particullarly mint as ill get it on my work bench at work and strip it and sort out any probs over a few days.
As long as its gone throgh its last MOT ok and doesnt need anything to major doing il be happy....dont really wanna be dropping the lump out of it...had enough of that shit with my old zx6r lol

Needs to be fairly close tho, im not sure how much natasha wants to go on the motorways at the moment evan with me leading on my R1, and if she gets an rvf (which i know she likes) i wont beable to collect it for her as im 6ft3 and am too big to actually ride it lol, last one i tried to ride was at a bcf dyno day a few years back and i had to sit on the passenger seat .

I don't see why your getting penalised so much on the insurance. For my bandit 600 at 17, male it was only 687.00 FC and 390 TPFT(which I chose) And your 3 years older, and female. Theres no reason why your budget should'nt find you a decent enough bike for the money, in fact, when I was doing the same sort of pricings no doubt you are now, I found getting a 400, overall was going to be hella more expensive unless I got a CB1. That was taking into account the price you would pay for a 400 import, NC30 and the like, then the mileage and quality, and then comparing that to naked and semi faired 600s. I found that the price you'd pay for a 400 which would have been ragged a lot, generally be a little tatty for it's age, would see you a far tidier 600.

at 19 my then 3 year old zx6r cost me £930 to insure... i already had 2 years no claims and that was the cheapest i could get.

your average 600 sports bike is groups 13?? pretty sure a bandit 6 is like group 9.... thats probably why u got it for £600



also every insurer in the country is putting there premiums up by like 10% of summin for next year.....fecking assholes

I picked up my CB1 for £500, there are bargains to be had.

my opinion is that, for the same money, you will get a better condition 600 than you will a 400

400's are old and knackered now, yet they have held their value, so they are not a good buy, unless you know how to fix your own bike, or have a friend who is willing to do it for you

you would be much better off as they are alot newer/better condition than a 89 NC30 for the same money.

though i did love my NC30 10 years ago

Im going to take natasha round aload of bike shops down here some time at the start of the new year so she can have a good look.

i wouldnt say 400's are old an nackered tbh, like most bikes there are good and bad examples... there are more than a few bloody awful srad suzuki's out there for instance, we will just take our time until we find summin resonable be it a 600 or a 400, she just doesnt want anything too heavy thats gunna cost the earth to insure.
