Poor man's Ohlins. Though I wouldn't be suprised if they're just as good as Ohlins, if not better.

Then maybe it should be 'Smart man's Ohlins'.

Famous Ohlins technician leaves Ohlins and starts up his own company.

From what I hear, they are very very good. You have to remember that a lot of the good technicians from Ohlins are now either managers (and the YTS boys actually make the shocks!) or they have left and started their own company.

A bit like Maxton and Stan Stephens, where the people with the knowhow don't really do the work, but they get their trainees to do it.

On that basis I'd say that Nitron are pretty good, and should be pretty good for at least a few more years, until the main guy decides to take a more hands off role!

Pretty good for the money actually - offered performance beyond my skill levels when I fitted one to my NC30. Quality made too, everythings CNC this and anodised that, offering 3 types depending on how much adjustment you require.

I was looking at getting a nitron shock for my rear because i know once my bike gets to about 30,000 miles, the back end will start to get stupid. I'm probably not good enough to notice the difference what little suspension adjustment would make, so is the basic road kit (£300) good enough. Mind you, i might wan to revamp my front end to suit.

Being pedantic as usual, this just means massed produced or machined by someone that only knows how to press a start button.

Not necessarily if the cutter or bed is worn on the miller/lathe. Just means they assume its ok compared to a bloke who is hand making each on and checking them individually.

Yeah, er, whatever.

It's a nicely built unit, money's not too bad either. I opted for the road version, which still has adjustment for preload, rebound and ride height.

Craig, did you order straight from their website? It appears to have cheaper prices than the other places? Looks like i'm going to foot the bill and go for nitron shocks in spring when the time comes to replace the shock. Certainly better than getting mine sent off to get rebuilt and being bikeless for a month or two AGAIN! Are the units fully rebuildable?

Only if the machine can self measure wear to the cutting head. Most can't.

I got mine from Rick Oliver Titz, usually speciallises in 400 parts, but I believe he might be able to offer a deal for other bikes. Can't remember how much I paid, think it was around the £300 mark. As ever, always pays to shop around.

There were a few names being thrown about - hiperpro, nitron, maxton, penske to name a few before you you get your standard top drawer stuff, but i was also told hiperpro are pretty good. I like the appearance of the nitron ones and based on people's reactions, they transpire to good performance.

A hand made one is never going to be as good as CNC, you can do things with CNC that just aren't possible by hand. Every part will still be checked that it's within tolerance before the final piece is assembled.

bumping this thread up.

Are the nitron road shocks the emulsion type since it appears by the design of the body, the gas charge and damping oil are in one sealed unit, i.e. does not have a remote reservoir?

I spoke to to guys at hein gericke and they suggest i get the similarly priced hyperpro shock because it has a progressive spring. Either way, both shocks have limited adjustment but but are remarkably better than the stock. My option is to fit progressive front springs and whatever road rear.

You already have a progressive linkage acting on the shock anyway.

Suspect until bits of the spring start to get coil bound the spring compression is linear with load.

All the best

It depends what model you opt for.

Their Road version is a single unit, their Sport and Race have remote reservoirs (and more adjustability).
