depends on bike. My SV is restricted because i'd be doing 100mph + speeds everywhere but my KR wasnt but thats because it screwed the bike over.

Restricting teaches control on a less powerful machine but they don't do it properly.

Should be 1st year <21 = 33bhp, 2nd year 60bhp, 3rd year 80bhp and 4th 100bhp because from 33bhp you can jump to something huge still in power difference.

i disagree, i went from 6bhp on an rs50 to 60bhp on a cbr400 and to 138bhp on my Tlr, and thats one bike per year.

speeding is about self control, theres a time and place

all the time, and everywhere Mr. Green

I still have the restrictors from BOTH my bikes that were meant to be restricted! Laughing Laughing 33bhwhaa? Razz I hope this is kept to a yes-no debate and that there will be no safety nazi comments out there. In response to your question- nope i didn't run 33bhp for the 2 years but there's no proof to show that i didn't and besides, i'm unrestricted now Wink

but it's all about training. I could probably control a full power SV pretty well now but when i first had my KR i rode it and was glad in a way it was restricted as it saved me from myself. Riding restricted personally protects you from yourself. Granted you can still put a 33bhp bike into a wall but unless you ride like a nutter you aren't going to. My opinion is if you want to risk it go for it but when you've got a job which pays for your bike anyway riding on it whats the point in risking getting caught?

Being of the local "start closer to 1 liter than not" school of new bikers, I'll agree that it's not about the bike, but the self control of the rider. A bike is still several hundred pounds of moving metal whether it's 33bhp, 60, 80, or higher.

And that same school dictates I vote no, since I started higher than 33bhp.

Yes to the very end.

Did ride full power bikes off the road though.

There wasn't much difference with the ER5 anyway.

Got the certicate and they was out in a fortnight. Don't draw attention to yourself or the bike and should be fine.

I reckon it's gone by the wayside anyway, unless someone can give us a story of someone they actually know getting grief from it? I doubt it though.

I agree with restriction, but in no way should it apply for two years. If it wasnt so long, Id be tempted to bet that a lot of people would be happier keeping a bike restricted.

Had mine in for 5/6 months. Went from XR125 to 33brake zx6r, and then full power in 5/6 months, I found it to an almost perfect learning curve. I feel totally comfortable with 90 odd brake. If you dont feel comfortable with that much power, its not rocket science (well, unless were talking pocket rockets Wink ), you keep the restrictors in.

They havent been put in yet, although the exhaust is pretty loud and I've been pulled twice 'making excessive progress' as they put it, in the early hours of the morning. Both times it was by bikers, and both times they asked if it was restricted then rolled their eyes at the 'yes sir, if you mean by restricted it has washers in the carbs restricting the flow' and then sent me on my way with a warning to get a baffle.

I'm probably going to put them in this week, keep them in 'til summerish, due to it only needing to be pulled by one stroppy copper doing his random breathalizing for it to be questioned and not beleived over xmas.

Technically I'm sticking to the 33bhp law as my bike realistically probably makes around 24bhp. However it's been that way since I was on L plates.

Sorry to hijack this thread, But is it possible to make some kind of throttle catch that I can keep under the seat? In the event of a crash (presuming I can still move/alive) I could fit that, then it would technically be making half throttle and half power? And there would be no way to prove it wasn't fitted at the time of collision. Just wondering.

More trouble than it's worth. It's probably more illegal than being derestricted if found out.

On the subject matter, my Gixxer was for my first year, Hornt 6 wasn't for a further 8 months, mille is, but only because the insurance company asked and I only had 4 months left to run on it.

(2 months on the 16 woooo!!)

Just been done for speeding on the 33bhp mille too, go figure!

I've never had a restricted bike, but that was because my first post-test bike was under 33 anyway. I voted yes because I did ride it for the full 2 years.

Back in August my mate was pulled over, he told the officer it was restricted however they didn't believe him. They phoned some guy and out of the blue (omgg) this van turned up with a dyno tester.

Coppers were wrong ofc, he was telling the truth. Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed Wink

No - Wasent going to let my GS500 be any more devoid of power than needs be.

Was given grief but a cunt of a cop on marble arch, he dident believe it was restricted, so actually wrote on the producer "33BHP Certificate Proof"...

I just showed a headed letter to the paper pusher at the cop shop from a "mechanic" stating what parts were installed and at what date...

As Titz says, there is no proof that the letter was anything other than the truth... Now im unrestricted...

I was under the impression once your two years was up a Gixxer Thou appeard outside your house? Im still waiting...

Left mine in for a year, which I think is probably a more realistic time period for getting used to a heavier, more powerful bike at 17. However people's competencies do differ and whilst one year was enough for me, 5 years might well not be enough for others.
