What a waste of money! Laughing

Attempting to stigmatise buying DVD copies, by comparing it to scrounging drinks off your mates - wtf?

Does anyone on here have strong anti-piracy views regarding DVDs? Interested to know, as I've not come across anyone who sympathises with the poor film/TV companies who 'suffer' as a result of this.

Hi

Does make it tempting to buy a hacked DVD so you don't get forced to watch the adverts and piracy commercials before you can get to the menu.

All the best

has anybody heard of what some companies are planning?.

That DVDs you rent will have adverts just like watching ITV, unless you buy a special subscription which will skip the adverts which will of course cost mega.

Well, I have never bought knock-off DVDs, nor would I.

I'm not saying I don't pirate stuff, but I'd never buy pirated stuff.

We get loads of pirate dvds stuck inside locked up dvd recorders. We remove em, send em back and more often not the customer complains that it plays perfectly in their £20 dvd player so it should play just as well in their £200 recorder or £500 home theatre.
Well it doesn't i'm afraid. get over it! Mad

I won't buy pirate DVD's for 2 reasons

1 - I've got a fairly decent tv/surround sound setup, pirate DVD's make it look and sound like crap .

2 - The majority of pirate DVD's that are sold where I work are sold by chinese people, it's widely known that the chinese are being scammed into selling pirate DVD's to clear their debts with people traffickers.

I don't have many problems with where my money goes, but I draw the line at financing people smuggling...

Just my Penny Coin Penny Coin

Tbh after a month or two, a genuine dvd is only what? £8 or £10?

I'd rather have a guaranteed perfect picture and audio for a couple quid more than a pirate.

The only bit of the advert really annoys me, is one line in the lyrics that doesn't quite fit in / rhyme with the rest of the tune (I think it's the line after he says he found the watch in the street)

Apart from that I find it quite catchy. Whenever I hear it, it reminds me that I'd promised to download or do a copy of a film for someone. They should play it more often, I could double my ouput! Laughing

Never bought a pirate DVD. Ex brought one home from work and I just lobbed it out in the street before i was even taken out of the pack. Alot of my neighbours are big into the pirate stuff but then complain when their cars are stolen, houses burgled, kids beaten up or the ASBO gangs give them hassle.
Support your local crime gangs...................... buy a pirate DVD.

You got any proof of that or are you just going off the advert that your forced to watch at the begining of your dvds.

Exactly what funding do these burgalars and car theives need? do they sell 20 copies of "run fat boy run" so they can go out and buy a crow bar so they can break into your house?

Being criminals wouldnt they just steal what they need rather than going to the effort of producing and selling pirate dvds?

I'm not talking small time crime. I'm talking larger multi national gang crime. The triads profit a lot from fake DVD's, obviously not as much as drug trafficking and people trafficking, but still does fund it in some way or another.

Again, what do you base this on? RIAA press releases or are you an accountant for the local triad gang? or simply the fact that its a chinese bloke that comes to sell them in the pub?

Trading Standards believe that pirate dvds are used to launder criminal money not fund it, so if you dont buy pirate dvds the crime does not stop, they just have to sell you something else to turn the money over.

The fact that I am currently in the middle of doing a module on the "History of Organised Crime" and that I am just taking some references from a book called "Organised Crime" written by Alan Wright. Smile

Are you saying that some players purposefully lock themselves up when you try and play a pirate DVD?
