Dissolving Ice...

Is there anything you can lay down on Garden paths, driveways etc, to either stop or remove ice other than bike killing salt? Slippery as fook outside the house and don't really want to bin the VFR on a driveway (again)

Why not just stick some cardboard out in the evening , covers the ground , so you can peel it off in the morning should be ice free, that said I have ice all the way to the main road and I just ski on it

When I lived at my old house I had a dodgy ramp set up leading out from the shed to the path and then to the road. I made up a very strong solution of car antifreeze in a old pump spray bottle and it worked a treat.

Sand? Dont know about that though. Salt will be your best bet, but as you said it will eat your bike to shreds. Or you could just wash it off with some water/hose pipe when you get back each time your out?

They do use sand on the roads in the united states, for traction. I'd go with super strong anti freeze, but whatever you choose, it'll still be slippy.

there is a salt substitute but I have forgotten what it is called . I think you can get it from B&Q.

dont ride it up the drive way, walk alongside it, with your hand on the throttle

i wdnt worry about getting salt on your bike from salting your drive, as there will be plenty of salt on the road

Considering how fast you are going to be going on your drive/path that salt wont do any damage.
Far more will be done while you are on the road and picking up all the spray from the cars.

Fair enough, I'll do that then, I'm riding to my mum's 300 miles away for Xmas and I don't want to get there and promptly dump the bike on the floor.

you can always piss yourself as you are turning into yer mam's road , should warm up your joints , and have enough urea salts to melt the ice that may have formed on yer,

but then VFRs have side mounted radiators, hold on ride?
