Will a 2 stroke 125 dirtbike (like the yamaha DT125) keep up with a race rep 125? (if not, how fast are they?) theres alot more of them out there, and if they go as well as the NSR and the like, I'd be willing to sacrifice looks as long as you get the performance! but do they handle badly? they look a bit high and they're hardly aerodymanic.

thanks for any info (and all the info so far)

A road based, derestricted trail bike should be able to out accelerate a sports 125 to about 50 as they will have lower a gearing and a tourqueir (sp?) engine. If you stick some decent road tyres on they should handle pretty well if you take a supermoto style riding style.

so you say acceleration is worse at higher speed, but is it good enough for overtaking? if there was a car doing 60, could you overtake safely? is the top speed alot lower on dirtbikes?

Yeah the top spped isn't as high but u should easyly be able to overtake a car at 60. The acceleration on these are very good, well the DT's are, would keep up with a nsr, they are fun bikes especially when you open the power valve. They are slso fun for wheeleing

My dads the same, the idea of me flying around on something as sporty as an NSR or NS worries him a bit (but I reckon he just wants me to get something slower than his Harley) so I thought about a DT. I'd much prefer a sports bike though. We'll see...............
