You got to warm up slowly....
Bowl of cold water 1st
Or straight onto Mrs bare skin...... That insures the air temp rises very quickly and gets the blood flowing as well.. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

I usually stick another pair of gloves on underneath my motorbike gloves, but I forgot too this morning.
Bear in mind my gloves have a few small holes in, where they have caught the hedgle coming out of my house.
Explained why 1 finger on my hand was fine, and the rest were bright red.

Muff it up!
Even handguards help allot, but appart from actively heated gloves nothing beats muffs... appart from muffs with heated grips, but then for the money your approaching heated gloves land..
Right now i'm still wearing my summer gloves, needing to turn the grips down because there too bloody hot. ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

I'm with Mr.Z on that one. I still use my spring/summer/autumn gloves with heated grips. My finger tips get slightly cold on my 30-40 minute ride to college but it isn't that bad. ____________________ Past: Honda x8rs, Honda City fly, Honda Hornet 250, Honda VFR750, Yamaha xt600e.

Doing ~100mph for 90 minutes in sub zero conditions made me bleed from the fingernails a bit
Only had my summer leather gloves on, got someone to warm me up when I got indoors though ____________________ Past: '96 Thundercat, '02 ZX636R (A1P), '58 KTM 690 SM LC4 Current: '06 ZX636R (C6F)

My knees got pretty bad once. Rode from Edinburgh to Aberdeen. My fingers were pretty much forgotten about by halfway, couldn't work the brake and clutch but I didn't need to on that bike.
It only started to get REALLY cold when it got dark and I started coming up into the hills where my folks live.
It was wierdly still and clear and my breath was starting to crystalise as I was exhaling. Very strange, I've never ridden in conditions like that. It was an intense cold but very dry, you could ride with the visor up but you could also feel it nipping the skin over your cheekbones without a sensation of it being actually cold.
Pulled into the drive and stayed on the bike. Couldn't straighten my knees to get off. My Dad came out and held the bike while I rolled off it then gradually pushed myself up onto my feet and kind of hobbled inside.
It honestly felt like my knee joints had frozen up, you could feel the cold deep inside them.
I got changed into some warm clothes (fresh out of the tumble drier ) and defrosted my hands under the hot tap. That hurt but my knees were REALLY bloody sore though, as was all the skin along the top of my thighs.
Went outside when I got warmed up to put the bike away and check the thermometer in the garden. It was reading minus 18! ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |
