Hi
What is your ideal bike specs. Within reason.
Personally not that worried about weight. 200kg dry would be fine. Seat height around 30". Fuel tank of 20 litres at the very least. Good brakes. Decent amount of power (say 130hp, but with a decent power delivery, not some boring torque fest). Sporting riding position (more sporting than a VFR750, but short of something like the R6).
Not sure there is anything that meets the list. Nearest is probably the Thunderace.
All the best

As light as possible with around 130 bhp.
Fuel range doesn't bother me, the sportier riding position the better.
Then again, I am young and foolish, so what you you expect. ____________________ My Flickr |

My ideal bike would probably be the Kawasaki ZX9R C/E models.
I want a bike with a 160-ish mile tank range (18L tank will do nicely)
It doesn't need a lot of power, but having something drivable and flexible is nice.
It shouldn't really look nickable.
I said the 9R Purely because they weigh 182ish kg dry, have 130bhp (at the crank), fuel range about 160-170 odd miles. It's just like my current ZX6R F but slightly heavier, more power, more torque, great tourer, do anything sort of bike. I hardly use all the power on my ZX6R, but the extra reserve on the 9 will be very nice to have on long distance tours and long distance journeys (which i tend to do a lot of). Besides, it doesn't quite have that blade/r1/gixxer image which is a good thing.
Most of the modern sportsbike lack the good old steel tank which I'd need for my trusty tankbag and even most of the fairings are too low, seats are too hard - the 9R would be great for me.
It'll probably need a akra full system and reworked shocks to make it the ideal bike for me.
But for the time being, for what I do, what i want, noting beats my ZX6R - loads of fun for not a lot of money. ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1

Weight wise anything between 160 - 200 dry, I'm a big guy and the weight of the bike doesn't bother me. Seat height 30 - 32 inches with a nice sporty seating position to it. But with a German car style seat firm but not to hard (obviously not a car seat). Also adjustable rear sets.
Petrol capacity I'm with you 20 litres would be nice, I mean the GSXR is 18 and gets 100 to a tank so a bit more would be nice. But I could settle for 18.
Brakes need to be good obviously, and tarty, brembo/ISR with waveys main reason for the image. Same with the suspension a nice adjustable set from Ohlins/WP.
Power 160 - 180 bhp obviously with handling and a frame to back it all up along with a nice power delivery
Ah and an exhaust system that doesn't care for noise regs and EU crap.
And no pillion seat or pegs.
So a tarted up k5/6/7 GSXR 1000 would do me nicely. ____________________ ◙◙► K6 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 1000 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► 96 RF600r ◄◙◙

Huge power for a little packet.
The monkey with maybe a 250cc 2t engine, extended and beefed up front and rear end, decent rubber and some clip ons and a set of race hangers for comfort.
I'm easily pleased, or...
...a feck of huge engine in the 7R frame as it is my ideal bike bar the cc and piddly little tank range. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Most important for me is a low seat height, preferably not more than 26-27" cos of my little legs.
Seat and therefore possibly the whole bike needs to be fairly narrow so probably a vtwin or v4 engine.
Weight isn't a major factor but the lighter the better. Don't mind the weight so much if the bike is well-balanced though. Acid test would be whether I can easily paddle it backwards whilst sat on it.
Tank range of at least 150 miles would be nice, as so far none of my bikes have done much more than 100 to a tank and it's irritating having to plan a long journey around petrol stops.
Power, not too bothered, probably 50bhp or more but as long as it's a smooth delivery I could manage, I'm not looking at going on a track and I'm not that fast on the road so as long as I can keep up with the traffic that's fine. Cruising at 80ish for the motorway without too much stress on the engine but with the ability to hit 3 figures in brief spurts would be perfectly OK with me.
I prefer an upright riding position and straight bars, with no extreme feet (either forwards or rear!)
I like a bit of bling so some nice chrome or polished stainless somewhere would be good.
Some useful accessories (crash bars/bungs, a luggage rack and maybe a screen as an upright riding position generally implies a naked bike) would be handy.
I'm hapy to report that apart from the tank range my bike actually does fulfil all of those criteria! ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

Something IL4 ,
with locknut type valves,
shaft drive,
stainless steel everything,
2000-on honda brakes
(very sharp and don't gum up as quickly as others IMO) ,
thick seat,
light as possible ,
huge tank capacity,
minmum of special tools needed to maintain it
Hassock front end to minimise fork seal / oil changes
Non recessed bits ,
narrow and thin,

For the road, if I didn't care about licence or my life:
A supercharged GSXR1000 style bike, but lighter and with better suspension . Not sure how 'within reason' that comes.
Realistically, for 'fun' a stock RS250 should do pretty much everything I want.
For a 'do it all' bike;
No more than claimed weight of 140kg, say.
7 gear single cylinder 600cc+ engine in moderate state of tune. Not overly lazy, but not needing services every day's riding.
Trail style bike tough enough to take abuse.
Plenty of places to add luggage, extra fuel tanks etc.
Choice of supermoto or trail wheels, easily swappable. Even, possible the possibility to store a spare front wheel, held on the bike somewhere.
A design whereby you don't have to take the rear subframe off just to change the air screw on the carb . |

reliability of a CG 125 with the fun element of a 2T engine and a half decent riding position would be me sorted. SV isn't too bad but the front springs are diabolical. ____________________ Past - CG125 ,KR1S, SV650s, Street Triple R - Current - Duke 390

I like having different bikes for different things
If I had to have just one bike, it would be my gilera sp 180.
Its quick getting to legal speeds or just above. Its agile, its comfy, and is much nicer for filtering than a sports bike or a small dirt bike with wide bars.
Its just right for the roads i commute on or popping to the shops. The mirrors are crap tho and i need to replace them.
I used to have a maxi scooter yp250, which was more like a cruiser, but the sp180 is much better for my commute - better handling, faster.
For me having a sports 600, is an indulgence, for occasional weekend rides into the countryside, or evenings in town when there isnt much traffic, so i can open it up a little. I have a TT600, and for me its a nice balance between a full on sports bike like an r6 and 600's that are a bit more of an allrounder like a thundercat.
Its more suited to country roads, but you can nip to the shops and commute on it too.
I also like a little explore around a forrest on my ttr250, and i hope to do a bit of green laning too at some point.
The ttr250 would be quite so nice for in town if it wasnt so appealing to thieves.
So if I were to have one bike, first choice would be my gilera sp180 (bought for £900), second choice my ttr250 (bought for £500), and third choice tt600 (bought for £1500).
I was tempted by a £750 crash damaged blackbird on ebay recently. It would be great for long distance touring but I havnt really done that, so im not sure i would make full use of it. ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |
