I think I need to adjust my clutch cable.

The clutch itself should be fine as the plates in there are new (1 month's use).

It can be an absolute git to find neutral once the bike is warmed up and also when selecting first gear it can jerk forward and stall when cold.

It's a real pain being stuck half way up a muddy slope and not being able to find neutral to kickstart the thing.

So I'm guessing I need to adjust it near the clutch and not the lever. Which way would I need to turn the adjuster nuts?

Cheers.

you need to make the outer cable 'longer' so turn the nuts to make the outer go up, anticlockwise i think Thumbs Up

Cheers
John

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance.

I know this isnt entirely helpful but my xr250r will kickstart in gear if the clutch is in. mind you, its an 86 model and if yours is newer then it may not be the same.give it a try

My 1998 XR250R is exactly the same - this morning (very cold and frosty) the clutch didnt work at all - simply stalled the bike when engaging first.
Once bike has warmed up (after about 3 mins) the gear change into first is nice and smooth - but finding neutral is a 'nack'.

I have posted on a couple of XR sites and will let you know of any results.

Wire it so the bike thinks it's always in neutral. Wink

Cheers yankeedoodle, just gave that a go and it works Thumbs Up I was told it had to be in neutral to kick it.
