I would have to say in the dry and wet or even just the cold damn wintry conditions that we are used to at this inclement time of year I can put my hand on heart and say that I trust my front end.

The feeling and sensitivity that the front provides is comforting even when going round a bend, lent over and the handlebars are jogging backwards and forwards like a jockey geeing on a horse due to the amount of road repairs. It feels like that I grip the front spindle rather than the bars when out on the road.

The front remains light and precise at both slow and high speed making it all a relaxing experience as it turns in beautifully. The rear on the other hand...

...I keep expecting the rear to go sliding out from under me whenever the road is not bone dry. In the dry it feels planted and secure, but in the damp I half expect to have to take the corner moto cross stylee.

I know that its all psychological, but what do you have more confidence in, the front or the rear?

I have condifence/trust in them both the same....
Its just i know that if the rear goes i stand a lot better chance of staying upright, than if the front decides its off...

I personally trust my rear a lot more primarily because of the reason that I once applied the front brake too much and it locked up which resulted in me falling. If the rear was to lock up, you can control it much easily.

Trust the front more by far, but with some hesitance once I start pushing it hard. It's far better than the rear for 90+% of the time but that last little bit it can just give up and slide out with little or no warning.

50/50 I just have a fear that if the front gose, thats it but if its the rear I have some sort of chance of keeping it upright.

I trust my front end more than the rear, got a bit aggressive with the throttle in 2nd gear the other day and the rear stepped out in a big way. Shat me pants Laughing But thats due to me and the greasy roads these days.

If I lock the back I just shrug, if I lock the front I shit it.

I use the front to loose lots of speed in a straight line fast. Everywhere else I use the rear break to control the speed.

rear stepping out isnt really a problem

correcting a front end slide, is more ticky

The only times I've controlled one, is by foot down to stop the bike tipping sideways, releasing the brake, braking again, foot down again to stop the bike tipping sideways when it locks again, repeat until under control.

Controlling a front end slide is a bit hit and miss, and its panic stations.

A rear end slide, i control without thinking, and only notice afterward.

I need to trust the front. If there's any compromise - poor suspension, bad tyres, incorrect setting in the front, my confidence on riding a bike dwindles. Relatively speaking, the back end can do what it wants.

The front. I know I can chuck it in hard while still on the brakes. A good setup helps a lot.

As for the rear as long as it puts the 65 horses down when I ask it to that's all I ask of it.

After constant twiddling with the suspension, i cant get any confidence the front. It's not as if it's got poor tyres - all of them were good condition, Dunlop Qualifiers and the other is a BT014. I KNOW they're cracking tyres but sometimes i just don't trust the front, especially in sweepers.

Never really thought about it, good thread.

I trust my rear because its a bigger tyre. The only reason I say that is cause its psychological.

Its strange really I think I have almost lost the front twice, and compared to my rear thats nothing.

The rear will happily slide about the place under braking and cornering, but I blame the state of the roads here. Up in the mountains its nice smooth race track style tarmac but around the towns and cities its awful.

But in summer when its 40c + the roads here are something different. You just grip.

The back brake is only there because the MOT requires it. Laughing

I never use it.

I trust both, i have become more trust worthy of the rear even since i started backing my CBR6RR into my drive every time.
now on track when the rear deceides it wants to wobble into a corner i let it.

I trust my rear a lot more, as I've never really been caught short, but once or twice when I've been really really pissed and if getting a little hot and heavy with a new bird, I may have dribbled a little sex wee from the front end. Yep, more trust in the rear. Thumbs Up

The rear is far more trustworthy.

It is safe (too much rear brake isn't as bad as too much front),
It is safer in more conditions (heavy rain, white lines),
Has less of an impact on handling mid corner,

The downside is it isn't very powerful.

90% of the time (which is city riding) the rear brake is all I use since really I only use a brake to go from 5mph to 0 when coming to lights or a give way. For that 5-0mph bit the rear is far more confortable then a bouncy front.

For city riding you only need to use the front when you have messed up, when you haven't forseen something, and need the power of the front brake.

When hooning about I make sure I only hoon in decent weather so the front is more on the cards, and I only use the front when the bike is upright, (so to take off a large chunk of speed before a corner).

The rear by far, It takes me doing something pretty stupid to make my back wheel slide, the thought of me throwing the back out never really crosses my mind, heavy bike + soft shock makes for a stable feel from the back, the downside of course is that the bike wallows around high speed corners like a whale Smile

I've never really been able to have any real faith in my front though, it gives so much more feedback that I struggle to throw it into corners with much confidence unless the road is glass smooth.

New tires soon at least, I'll have to remember to put the side stand down again Wink

The only time I ever use the back brake is when im on the back wheel. So I guess I trust my front end more.

Definitely front after my rear tried to step out under minor acceleration about an hour ago. Must have been a diesel patch though as I really was taking it easy and whilst my bike is a twin, it isn't THAT torquey. Luckily I pulled out of the junction like a granny and it was on the straight when the back went squirmy.

I have more faith in my front at the moment, recent new forks, brakes, wheel bearings & tyre.

As has been said before though, it it easier to control a back end slide than a front end one.
