well i thought it might be a good idea to have on included as a separate section in non-bike related talk. Seeing the the general taste in music is pretty diverse and eclectic to say the least, there is a fair proportion of us that listen to the same thing. It was only after speaking to the people on MSN that it got me going. Some dude (i think quaker boy) was pretty surprised that i was a metal head after thinking that i was into hip hop and R&B (easy mistake, shaven asian head, white hoodies, baggies - definately look like a B-boy and often do at uni)

Why this section is useful- could be used to post of certain gigs (Regional or national) which people might be interested in attending. It could be used to host links to people's own musical efforts (i'm sure there's plenty of decent musicians out there - i'm talking DJ's to violinists ) and would probably be useul to share their stuff onto here without fear of spamming pr posing in the wrong sections.

It could be used to discuss who likes what band and generally used to slate and sterotype emos and lady sovereign lovers and all da playa haters.

I mean, if any of us happen to be going to the same gig/rave/event, wouldn't it be nice to know.

Furthermore, could be used to discuss latest albums and stuff and give valid reasons why the spice grils are utter waste!

Anybody think it's a good idea? I know MCN ninjas are doing it.

Also, FAO all - Anybody planning going download this year?

Enough sections already! Until there's a significant enough number of sections, I don't see the problem with 'Random Banter'.

We give you a 'music' section and next the tiddly winks crowd will want their own section too, and so on.

If you want to arrange meeting up with other people for music stuff, the regionall the regional forums are perfectly acceptable as it is.
The calender can also accept your entries for non-bike related things if you think there's likely to be enough interest.

If you want to have music stuff all in one place, why not start a thread with links to all the music threads? I'd be happy to sticky or link to it in a sticky if effort is put in.
And of course if you manage to show there is loads of interest, it'd be a much better proposition.

As I've said before, all the things you have asked for recently, I believe, there is already a section which was created for just those, which doesn't really get used.
If people put some effort into using what is available (or even just reading about what is available) or trying to do things themselves first, then some effort might get put into helping the forum members make the site better.

I could bung anything in any section, i know that. It's not the point

For example, the thread about kit/bikes and road reviews would be a brilliant section. That way you wouldn't have to trawl through endless threads in general or whatever.
One review thread was made in show and tell and it's dissapeared now, it needed to stick around for people to review their bikes.

Nothing stopping people putting effort into writing reviews and putting them in show and tell. But, they don't. Don't need an existing thread dedicated to it, just need people to actually be bothered to put finger to keyboard.

From the sticky at the top of show and tell:

If I can be bothered, at some point I'll try and put some effort into 'sorting out' show and tell, but then it seems few people who post in there can be bothered to read the "Make sure you read this before posting here!" post, so don't know if it's worth the effort.

The idea of a show and tell is that it's threads people have gone to decent effort in, so that you don't have to trawl through the dross.

G, don't think blaming the hundreds of members on here sorts the problem.
I'm pretty sure that interest would grow as more and more people entered their information on their bike. I'd quite like to see a good list of bikes i can scroll down and see what people thought of them.
I think it's mainly to do with the task of making a new thread about your bike specifically, you're going to have to think of a new layout, all the information layout and then hope that it stays a float so it makes it worth while.

It won't because the section is a collection of loads of things.

So yeah 'sort it out'

A very simple way to make it easy to find is to request people prefix their subject title with a specific phrase, eg 'BikeReview:', that way it would be easy to search for them all and seperate them out from other threads.
If effort is put into it and it is popular, I would be happy to at least sticky or add the the thread to a sticky if not more.

Judging from what I see on the forum, personally I think bike reviews won't produce much useful information. The majority of people will say their bike is great, partly presumably because they chose it because it was the best for their situation and partly through a rather, to my mind, misplaced pried.

And yes Paivi, if you put the same effort into consolidating reviews for tiddlywinks championships, I will do something similar for that too Very Happy.

Give me the damn controls and I would sort this thing out myself! I imagine I could put all the effort tin only to get more excuses why it shouldn’t be implemented.

It takes time to write a decent review, I mean my idea of a ‘biking history’ caught on, but soon after it goes from page one, no one realises it’s there. I really enjoyed other peoples biking historys whilst they could still see it about.
A section for bike reviews would take time to develop, but over time there would be, IMO a nice selection of bikes with personal reviews. This should have been done a long time ago, this forum is about any sort of machine and any sort of rider.

Not much different to bike reviews in bike mags, I’ve read reviews which I think now are worth F all, I’ve owned the bike in question and find that bike mags talk arse a lot of the time. I find reviews from normal everyday riders much more interesting and informative.

I'm not claiming that anything significant /will/ be done.
However, regardless of whether a section exists or not, there will still be a useful resource there if you make one and get lots of people to contribute. That will exist regardless of how people access it and will be pretty much just as useful, I'd say.
We have seen in the past that the act of creating a similar separate section when asked in no way means people will bother to actually put effort in to fill it.

I can’t remember anyone disagreeing with a bike/kit etc review section apart from the people who mod the site.

As far as a 'resource' goes, if anything that's better as someone can organise the list of bikes more intelligently; for instance by manufacturer or by type of bike.

Remember when Korn changed BCF and added lots of different sections? People were moaning like god knows what.

There's sections in BCF that cover everything you're asking for. Use them and stop the whining.

Maybe an easier option would be to have the show and tell section and then in there have bike section, kit, roads etc....

You're making it sound much more complicated than it has to be, there is no need for anything else really but i'd really like to see a list of bikes in a section created by people on here that i can have a gander at.

I have been thinking of implementing something along the lines that you are suggesting within the current constraints of the setup.
I may have a look at it over christmass if I have a bit more time when I'm not doing 'owt.

So i make a thread, people add their bikes and whilst its floating around i have to keep bumping it up?

It's the job of the mods to look over suggestions and implement them if they think its a good thing to do. Its not your average thread where people add to it every five minutes, you have to think about a review and get some pictures together as well. It will take time but i think it will be a good section.

Basically, you are saying you want to have a list of BCF members reviews of bikes.
If you want that, you can achieve that quite easily and probably, better, without a separate section being created initially.
It's really not that hard, but is going to require a bit of effort from you.
I'm much more willing to go to effort to help people that put effort in themselves.

I'm suggesting you make a thread in which you keep an organised list of links to all the reviews that people have written about bikes.
The obvious answer to 'publicise' it is a link in your sig as you post quite a lot - this has worked well for other people in the past.

It's the job of the mods to moderate the forum.
As I said earlier, I personally do not think a specific bike reviews section is a good one. However if enough of the forum were to put effort and interest into writing these reviews, I would be happy to pursue the creating one or something similar.
