Well I bought a new rear sprocket for the Ariel and I'm proud to report she now goes 56/57mph. Very Happy
Any way, I want to get the rear sprocket chromed .... is there any problems with doing this ?
How much of a "layer" is added , enough to make the chain not fit ?

cheers, J.

Wouldn't the constant running of the chain wear through the chrome?

It's not going to wear out the whole of the sprocket though, just the teeth.
Am I right in thinking that the Ariel will be taken to shows?

EDIT: I've read your signature Very Happy

I'd just give it a good polish until it gleams.

There's nothing cool about the Ghetto.

Personally, I don't much care for Jennifer Lopez's rock collection.

The Ariel factory never chromed them, they were, I guess, cadmium or zinc plated. Chrome will look wrong, chip, wear your chain and be covered in grease anyway. If you wish to show your bike things like that tend to get it marked down as not standard.

I don't take the bike to shows to win anything, I take it because I enjoy going and talking with other like minded people and seeing other peoples bikes, it also means I get free entry as well.
And to some of the "purists" the bike could be seen as 'non concourse' now , as it has a single seat.
Thumbs Up

Lol, I always have a good chuckle at the concourse criteria when I take my Morris Minor to classic car shows. In most of the classes of the Morris Minor Owner's Club concourse, you can be marked down for such abominations as underseal, radial tyres, non-original seat belts, etc. Some people enjoy it which is fine but I really can't see why Confused

I wouldn't chrome it but do as you please with it, it isn't as if it's altering the bike irreversibly either.

Agreed, i could spend 4 hours polishing mine with wet and dry but after 5 mins on the road it would be pointless.

sod wet & dry!

use a proper polishing mop/s & soap/s on a 240V drill

then once done, even when it gets dirty, you just wipe it over
