hello peoples...

i just have a little question here... a shop near me keeps throwing out knobbly tyres for mx bikes so i went up and took a look while they were shut (saves me forking out 40 quid a time for cheapo tyres they provide)

the tyres have tons of tread left and some even have the little lines as there that new and there michelins so i took 2 rear tyres and one front tyre home with me. they have been used as part of the knobbly have little marks and some rubber is missing, im just wondering...

are these knobbly's road legal? whats the law on knobbly's in general?? are they worse or better than your average tyre n regards to grip and wear

my bikes a Kawasaki kmx 125

just need to info as id love to have the knobbly tyres on it but i don't want to do it if it means less grip at this time of year and/or its illegal

Legal depends on the spacing of the knobbles.

I would guess it will say if they are not road legal on them...

Having used them years ago, i found them Ok on the road, so long as you remember you don't have as much rubber in contact with the road and they have a very diffrent feel on corners as well...

Hope they don't have cctv of you nicking the tyre's.... Shocked

Far better to ask, as you never know just whats wrong with the tyres.

Yea as said , they will have "not for road use" or "not for highway use" on them.
Most full blown competition mx tyres are illegal to use.

did you say you just went when they were shut and took some tyres home with you? Wouldnt it be polite to just ask? Taking something without permission is stealing isnt it? Anyway, if they say not for road use etc then there not legal for road use.

they were on a rubbish pile so im probably saving him money taking them anyway Laughing plus the guy who owns the shop is a complete scammer so he'd want something back for them even if they are totaly no good

seeing as he ripped me off with a dodgy so say brand new piaggio nrg which turned out to be a complete waste of money i think he owes me something back (long story) Laughing

anyway... heres the tyres... il check if they have any notice's on them thanks for the advice

Those aint legal. Most crossers use a tyre each meeting and then scrap them off. I buy them now and again for a fiver.

They are tubed for spoked wheels, they are perfectly ok for general mud pluging but the knobles get rounded a little and lose the edge for competition work.

If you fit them to your bike and try to ride it on the road, it will 'walk' sideways on the knobs as you are cornering. It is a highly offputting sensation.

They will also have much poorer grip on tarmac than your normal tyres.

No, use mx knobblys on dirt on road tyres on the road, better off doing that tbh.

they're not legal, and really not fun on the roads.

p.s. wouldn't be paul harker you 'acquired' them from would it?

Cheers
John

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance.
