I've finally got the cash for an 8800GT but I fucking hate green. Can I spray it black? Just the back side, as that's all that shows.

I don't see why not really, paint shouldn't conduct when dry so long as it hasn't got metallic content.

As with all the best instructions though, try it on something non-essential first.....

Got an old PCI soundblaster 16 lying around anywhere? I'm sure everyone must have! Try it on something like that first. Mr. Green

Nope. That's why I'm asking if anyone's done it, first.

It wouldn't even be a problem if they'd just make the damned ugly side so it faces down in the case. Everything else in there's either black or silver. Why would I want some giant, puke-green circuit board just sitting right in the middle of everything? Those assholes.

I can see 2 things happening

1) Ull use a paint which will conduct and fry GFX card and MOBO

2) It will insolate the card which in turn make it run hotter and burn it out.

Just dont do it Please dont.

Paint don't conduct electricity unless it has metal flakes in it...

https://metku.net/index.html?path=mods/cardpainting/index_eng

That should be of some interest - particularly the bottom paragraph - it seems you can get lacquer designed for this purpose, but he also says it's a risky job so given it's not a cheap network card like that I'd be wary.

You could always flog it to me and get yourself a black one, I don't care what colour mine is. Mr. Green

Aye, 'tis the same mobo I've got. It's currently got two wonderfully black 7900GS cards hanging off it and I just can't bare the thought of stuffing some ugly green thing in there. Should've just got a fully enclosed casein the first place, as opposed to this one's nearly full plexiglass side. But, I just couldn't help myself.

Looks like I'll be buying the ugly green bastard and waiting 'til a bit more subtle case goes on sale in the near future. Rolling Eyes
And I certainly can't afford a GTX FFS! Laughing

I was curious about that card, actually. Is it based on the same 'new' architecture as the GT, or is it just the same old GTS but in 512MB flavor? Also, I haven't seen any GTS'seses in black, save one 640MB model. Link?

the new GTS is based on the same archetecture as the Gt and runs very cool. Although atm Ive seen alot come DOA and genreally not work properly. GT was a good choice and id just live with it being green Rolling Eyes

I 2nd the comment on the thing running hot and cooking itself. The paint is not going to conduct heat and probably cause the traces to overheat and maybe crack leaving it unusable.

Still I'm all for it and reckon you should give it a go Thumbs Up Very Happy

After all you asked the question....now it's time to find out.

So get in there and take one for the team

Its going to be very hard to paint the board and keep it off the capacitors and voltage regulators. If you coat these in paint, its almost certain they will overheat at some point in the future.

You can buy black cards from XFX Smile
