PostPosted: 18:07 - 28 Dec 2007    Post subject: Aprilia Rs 125 Rs125 2t Oil Reply with quote

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone knew of a place where I can buy good quality, fully synthetic 2t oil at a low as possible price? (i.e. Mobil1, Shell Advanced VTX, Castrol TTS etc.)

Also is there a "best" quality 2t oil to buy; if so what makes it better than the others?

P.s. How do you change an Aprilia Rs125 piston/piston rings? (Any references/links to manuals/guides on how to do this would be greatly appreciated).

Thanks in advance,

Jack

Oil quality and price will vary depending on where you get it from, you've just got to decide what the best deal you can get is and go for it.

As for changing the piston etc , This link, look at kickstart68's post.

I got a litre of Castrol TTS for £10.84 (along with some ACF50 and FS365) from www.mandp.co.uk. Which I thought was a reasonable price compared to usual £13-15 I've normally seen for TTS.

Thanks for that link by the way, I shall be undertaking a ring change at about 6000km (bikes currently got ~3500km at the moment).
I'll probably get the genuine Rotax parts from Peter Knight; is there much variance in quality between pattern and Rotax/Aprilia engine parts?

An decent Piaggio dealer will stock Selenia Fully synthetic 2t oil at £8.50 a litre which is API-TC++ grade (Castrol TTS is only TC)

If not Belray Si7 is a VERY VERY good oil, about £10 a litre but a little more harder to find. Agip Racing 2t is also worth keeping an eye out...

I always get my oil from here

https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/144/26453

Its good oil and seems to do the job - recommended to my by someone who uses it in his highly tuned RS250 track bike Thumbs Up

Best to ask someone who has or does use such, I'd say Aprillia parts are better because they are made for that job, not "cheap" copies which are also made for that job, but with proper parts you know they're proper.

Whateva you do, do not buy some cheap stuff. Rs engines are very highly strung performance 2 stroke engines which require careful maintenance. Failure to do so will result in piston and barrell changes.

Just wondered whether Rotax or Aprilia engine parts had much variance in quality due to the fact although the rs125 is an Aprilia it uses a Rotax Engine.

Unfortunately the only Piaggio Dealer I know of near the Bristol area doesn't stock Selenia. I'll keep an eye for it and the others you recommended though.

ta for the help

Jack

Rotax parts or Aprilia parts will be the same, Aprilia just buy them off Rotax and stick a part number on them so if you can find Rotax parts from another source then thats fine...

... its only the aftermarket parts you have to watch out for, as some are very cheaply made and although seem great in the adverts and the price looks appealing, when they break in only a few hundred miles and destroy all the hard work done to fit them youll soon wish you spent a few more £££ and fitted something decent.
