They look nice but are pretty frustrating once you get over the 'ooh, shiny' factor.

Played on one for a bit. Sorta neat. Crazy expensive though, I don't see how anyone can justify it.

Seeing that Powelly has a £210 ultra portable laptop with a 4gb SSHD, I reckon one of those + one of those 3 mobile internet things for £20 a month would be better.

Looks like it held up pretty well, actually. The little screen stayed lit even after the entire shell had been ripped off. Thumbs Up

There are workarounds, but not native to the phone https://www.iross.net/blog/2007/11/14/iphone-mms/

Heh..

How come every other phone manufacturer can design phones for use in any country, but Apple can only design them to be properly used in the US.

Nice interface and nice general design, but the technology on it is about 2 years out of date. If your not arsed about the phone bit and just want to be able to use the rest, i.e. itunes, safari, widgets etc get the ipod touch instead.

Personally i'd reccommend people not to bother with 1st gen apple products until theyve ironed out all the niggles.

They look good but they are only fashion items. If you want a phone for functionality buy an N95 that can be put on pay as you go and has a better camera, built in GPS and a battery that you can change yourself.

I was thinking about getting an iphone when my contract runs out, but not being able to send pitures via mms? Was it designed in the fucking dark ages or what. Thumbs Down

GPS that doesn't come as standard now, and the older versions you have to subscribe to, why? If you have the technology there and are paying that much for the services they then con you more on GPS subscription. Thumbs Down

Sony Ericsson have had an do hold the front of the market for a year or two. I'm just waiting for a price decrease/better deal on the W910i. Cool

Hmm, the more I read about it the crapper it gets.

Rubbish camera, no flash, can't record video (!), can't send sms messages to more than one person at once, no RSS reader, obviously no 3G, no MMS, can't use it as a storage device, no push email, etc. etc.

My Sony Ericsson k810i (free with contract) does all of the above...

pros and cons..:

as standard:

Cons:
- Doesn't support MMS/Picture messaging AT ALL.
- can't send group txts
- can't forward existing texts to other people
- can't turn off the phone while leaving wi-fi enabled
- version 1.1.2 of the firmware cannot be 'jailbreak'ed without risking locking the entire phone, so NO additional apps can be installed (yet)
- limited ability to add new ringtones (new versions of Itunes and the like allows you to download tunes and save them as a ringtone, but no functionality (as yet) to just upload your own MP3)

pros:

- Very slick interface
- free wifi on o2 and The Cloud networks (assuming you're with the o2 contract)
- come Feb, the official SDK is released, so many of the hacky apps SHOULD become available as a legit install
- email functionality is fantastic, and the camera/photo app allows you to send images by Email so this partially negates the issue with picture messages
- can view images and PDFs as email attachments
- inter-application integration (e.g. maps application integrates with phone contact and email list so you can easily link between the apps to see where someone is, or find a business and call them directly from the maps app)
- internet applications are fully featured, unlike most mobile devices, and the safari browser supports multi-page browsing (like tabbed browsing)
-silent mode switch on the side saves you hunting for silent mode.

The 3G thing is a bit of a contentious issue. YES in terms of absolute download speeds, 3G is faster than 'the edge' which is kinda 2.5G. However.. in tests I've done, and have seen done by others (in my case comparing my iphone with my windows mobile 5.0 phone on 3G) the overall speed of getting the content visible is nigh on identical. the iPhone may be slower at the network connectivity, but it's far quicker at rendering the content. In practice, too, the ease of use compared to the more traditional phones in terms of speed of navigation makes the overall experience no slower despite the networrk speed. There's little point in a 3G connection if it takes you 5 minutes to look thru the page for the content and links you require. the iPhone's touchscreen scroll and zoom (especially the 'pinch' zoom) makes the page navigation an ease.

On the whole, I'm very happy with mine. the MMS and txt limitations are minor irritations, but the Email and web functionality it offers me more than makes up for it in my eyes.

It's NOT a cheap phone, and there are better contracts out there for call and txt cost, but for me the free wifi makes up for it. I've gone for the cheapest contract, but will add a txt bolt-on which brings it up to the same as I'm currently playing for my data-heavy contract in terms of cost, but with the free wifi, it's just as cost-effective but with more txts.

Well whilst i was around and about in town i popped into O2 and they had a big demo table set up with about 8 of the iphones ready to use.

They were really easy to use, and i thought the internet on it was brilliant. Nice display screen and a generally nice looking phone.
And i would of walked away with one, if they hadnt of been so fucking ridiculously priced. Now i would of been happy with the minimum contract of 18months because i doubt its a phone i would replace in the next couple of years anyway. But the fact that you have to pay for the handset as well takes the piss abit. Especially when they want £269 for it as well as the £35 theyre robbing off you a month. And thats the cheapest tarrif you only get 200mins and 200txts.

So untill they get rid of the first payment i dont think its going to do that well unless you get people who have a fair amount of money.

Mate wait until the next generation is released in 08.

Will have 3G support and hopefully a better camera and hopefully more network options.

Is a beautiful piece of equipment thought.

As a stop gap buy an Ipod Touch and have all the internet functions without the tariff.
