i'm hoping to pass my test within the next couple of months and i've started thinking about what bikes i could get when i do.
The zxr seems like the best option because it's physically the biggest and the insurance is cheaper than the imports.
i'm wondering how much the 33bhp restictors hinder the acceleration and in the back of MCN it's says that the early models had camchain probs, is this really an issue?

ZXR750 or 400??
The 400 runs like a bag of spanners when cold but is fine when it's warmed up, haven't heard any nasty stories about the camchain but then I haven't had much to do with them.
750 is solid IF it gets good oil and regular maint... some have knackered top ends in under 40K miles... but that's maltreatment rather than any design flaw.
Dodgy sudden starting probs are normally Kawasaki's infamous bloody sidestand cutout... been going wrong since they fitted it to my 900!! best removed Wink
BUT! If you are going from an NSR or similar, (no offence meant if you're not!) then the 750 may be a bit extreme. Even the old ones are complete nutter missiles and need a lot of respect when the roads get greasy/crap.
(what do I mean GET crap... they're covered in holes & crap here 360 days of the year Rolling Eyes )
Good luck anyway, can't go wrong with a big Kawa Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Twisted Evil

The ZXR's are really nice. Keep an eye out for the odd ZZR400 too.
Asa far as the insurance, I've talked to a few companies and none will charge more for Imports.... The proper bike insurers seemed dumbfounded as to why anyone would charge more for Import.
And I thought the majority of 400 sports were imported anyways??
