Hey, after being on my r6 for nearly a week i have found out im one of the unlucky people who has bought a 2000 r6 with the 2nd to 3rd gear shift problem. When im in second and pull back the throttle the bike will make a clunking sound and shift up on its own (doesnt happen all the time though). Its really annoying. I want to know what i should do about it as after doing some searching on here its been said its a really costly thing to fix. If i leave it like it is will it cause any more damage to the bike other than destroying the second gear lol just like some ideas peoople thanks

There's a pretty good guide of how to fix it yourself on the R6Messagenet. Clicky!

Yes it needs to be fixed... and unfortunately its gonna be costly... but leaving it to get worse and do more damage will just make the repair bills even larger!

after being out on the r6 most of this weekend i can now tell that its Not knockin up from 2nd into to 3rd but in second its slipping. Ill like rev it through second and itll have a sudden jolt and then continue again. Although it doesnt always happen so i was wonder if the restrcitor kit in it would have anything to do with it. just a thought lol

No, I think you have a gearbox issue with it full stop. Where/who did you buy it from, do you not have any redress against the seller?

Well you might be in with a chance then, but you are almost up to the end of the magic three months implied warranty, but if you have done very little mileage on it that should help your plight too.

Be nice and polite to them, point out the basic facts that you have hardly used it due to the test business and that you have only put 'x' number of miles on it etc and that you have noticed it has a gearbox problem. Don't let them fob you off, be firm that you want it fixed etc.

Let us know how you get on.

thanks alot, ill be conacting them tomorrow as its new year lol i do remeber the guy also saying when we bought it. Dont worry if somthing does go wrong we wont leave you in the lurch with it. So thats sort of cleared things. Just makes me mad that a dealer has even bothered testing and checking that the bike works properly mechincally.

They probably have tested it and know that the gearbox is a bit dicky. But they are in a catch 22 situation - if they repair it before they sell it then they stand to lose the profit out of it, whereas if they sell it and no-one complains then they have 'won' (I use the term won loosely). If the buyer comes back with the problem whilst it is under warranty and they have to fix it free of charge they are no worse off than what they would have been if they had fixed it in the first place.

I'm not saying that the dealer knows they have sold you a defective bike, but it does happen like this sometimes. On second hand stock there is a point where you have got to say enough is enough on minor repair work, otherwise you would end up making every bike like new before you sell it on.
