Turn the iron on full with steam and lob it in the tank..........That should keep the buggers warm.

I don't honestly know about tropical fish but how warm does the water need to be? Couldn't leaving your heating on and letting the water stay at room temp help for the next 24 hours?

Keep topping up the tank with warm water.

If you've more than one tank you could share a heater between two tanks - just swap it over every hour or so.

The water will retain the heat for quite a while if its not too small.

Im sure your fish will be ok for a day. I have some tropical here that went without a heater for 5 days and were all ok.

Try these guys. The Mrs has had a lot of help from them with her aquarium, and they have an'emergencies' forum. Tell 'em what you keep and the problem and they'll give you the prognosis. Very Happy

Don't bother about pillows it will not make much difference. Don't swap heaters from another tank either unless you let it cool down for 10 mins as the thermal shock will crack it when you put it in the cooler tank.

Depending on the size of the tank (the bigger the better) as Louise says leave it and it will match the room temperature eventually. The heat escapes as the glass surface area acts as a radiator.

Get an empty pop bottle and fill it with warm water, then stick that in the tank.
