Hi

Basically I did a bit of searching on the forums and asked a few members and i got a set of restrictors from monkeypie Cool .

Well today I was a garage and I said I had a set of restrictors ready to put into a hornet and they said your not allowed to do that you have to buy them from new to get the certificate (Which is about £150+whatever labour).

Now i was under the impression you could just get a dyno readout and that would prove the bike is only 33bhp if the insurance/police really wanted written proof.

Tbh i though he was talking a load of shit but I might be wrong.

So is there anyone who knows the answer for sure ?

There is no legal requirement for a certificate, all it can do, if your lucky is stop a copper from dyno'ing your bike.

But, as you are restricted anyway, if he does want to be an arse and dyno it, you will be fine anyway!

I've been wondering the exact same thing. When I buy an SV I've been thinking about just buying the washers off ebay.

does anyone have a link to the law/act covering the restriction so we can know for sure? I don't mind being restricted to 33bhp but I dont wanna pay ridiculous amounts of money for a couple of washers. the government should make getting a restriction free, as the large fee charged for all the paperwork must only convince alot of people to ride ilegally without them.

The motorcycle must produce 33bhp or less and not exceed the 0.16kw/kg thing.

No mention of certificates or anything. You could blank off one cylinder on the SV and if it made 33bhp or less, then that's legal.

you must be kidding if thats all there is.
Shocked
if thats all there is then why do so many people buy this crappy paperwork if you can buy the washers and get a dyno run for a quarter of the price??

Because people are mugs and for the reasons above, the garages have a decent mark up on it I suspect. Wink

Some people do genuinely think it's the law though.

right, thats good to know.I'm always glad when I hear that I can save some pennies.

would you recommend getting a dyno print out as soon as its restricted, and carry it round with you? or leave it, and then get one if asked for proof by police/insurance company?

Some places do you a run as part of the price. I'd get one done purely for less hassle should you be given a producer. That way you can go and produce straight away instead of having to book a run and then go produce.

well I;ve got a friend who would be able to fit the washers, so I'll track down my local dyno place and get a print out as soon as the bike is restricted.thanks for your help.

yes suzuki are doing free restrictors for new bikes on all models. i got one with my sv650s a month ago. its an ecm module that plugs in somewhere, i havent really looked at it but i get the impression its all computer/electronically controlled by a chip rather than washers and such. they gave me the original full power module for when i want to swap it back in, but like i said i havent looked at it. i dont know if its just a straight plug-in user-replaceable part or what.
