Just started using one of the zip off bits of my tankbag as a "Bum Bag" (Comes with the straps to do this) and been using it to carry valuables and stuff to work instead of a massive backpack (Which is stupid for a few keys, phone, wallet) and wish I started using them when I started biking as they making paying for fuel, tolls, etc a piece of piss! Was getting sick of having to take my backpack off with full kit on just to get a wallet out!

Anyone else been converted to the joys of them?

No, but I feel the same about my topbox!

It might look ugly, but I've got to the point where I just dont care because the practicalities outweigh the negatives. Luckily the box actually looks relatively ok on a Tiger, but I'd probably fit one to ZX10R to be honest

In the 80's I had one but wouldn't use one now. Wink

I have enough pockets ta.

Wouldn't mind a batman style utility belt though... I usually carry a small back pack anyway, in case I decide to pick up some shopping or something...

You never know...

Alway remember watching a film years ago ('Big' I think it was) when I was a kid in the 80's, they kept refering to a fanny-sack, I thought it was hilarious; although at the time, I had no idea what it actually was...

God no chance I'd wear one off of the bike but for carrying essentials without having the windblast of a rucksack tiring you out they're really good!

I'll admit they're good for keeping weighty items restrained and low down. The benefit of having it supported by the seat isn't lost on me either, but altough I used one for a couple of weeks I was happy when my tank bag arrived. My wallet stays in my jacket pocket, I want the paramedics to be able to identify me quickly, not look through my lost luggage. Razz

My other half once rolled up with a leather bumbag for me Shocked

Its still in the packet, on top of the wardrobe and thats where its staying Hand

My excuse is, that I have tons of pockets in my jacket. If I ever invest in some one piece leathers (which wouldnt be a nice sight, with my lumps and bumps)..then I might be forced to reconsider the bumbag issue.

I wear one at work - but find it gets in the way on the bike. I guess it would be a bit different if you didn't have chains and cuffs dripping off it, one or two pouches would probably hold as much as a bum-bag, and would look slightly cooler.

The downside is that everyone would assume you were a screw or a copper - or even worse, a wannabe!

I've got an Oxford one which, during summer rides whilst wearing 1-piece, usually holds:

Wallet
Keys
Bottle of drink
Munchy bars
A5 UK road atlas
Spare earplugs
Toolkit
Spare visor
Mein "Handy"
Spare change
Damp cloth in sandwich bag (for visor cleaning)
Niquitin lozenges (used to be cigs & lighter)
Cargo net
Small 1st aid kit

For the winter, I go nuts and use the Lidl tank bag. Thumbs Up

I'm English and it's a BUM. A Fanny is something your mother has.
same with hood/bonnet, trunk/boot. We invented the language. But it still doesn't fit fat bastards like me.

Think I'll start leaving the buttplugs at home then Sad

When i'm going anywhere that needs more than i can keep in the vast hein gericke pockets i take a small shoulder bag, only wear it on the front, nothing overly pointy in there, mp3player, wallet, drink of water, that sort of stuff.

Bum bags send out the "hey all my moneys in here! probably a phone too!" message a bit too much, i'm sure they are sponsored by pickpocketer and bagsnatcher guilds.

I use a packpack because as soon as I get to the train station I switch from my boots to my trainers. I can swing my backpack aound quite happily and take my wallet, phone and keys etc out the front pocket.

I just can't bring myself to use one . . . . However, I do have friends who do.

I have a tiny tankbag I got for £2.99 from Lidl. It was an impluse buy, but I love it now. It fits all I need; money, phone, inhaler, undergloves, lipsalve etc Thumbs Up

I can even get a spare t-shirt in there if needs be.
