have just done a rac check on my bike only to find out that its a cat c
now when i bought it,it had panels missing, footpeg broken, clocks missing
is it supposed to show on the v5 that it was a cat c or not
the date on the check is 26/02/01
the bike was first registered on 13/02/01
how do i go about getting it moted or is it straight forward
will it need a vic or anything else?

it would probably never get insured if the cat c claim hasnt been propperly handled. The DVLA will know if its been written off and not re registered i think. if it was police seized you have no chance.

like i said there is no indication on the v5 that its ever been a cat c
so would it have been repaired right and dvla notified
would that mean that it still shows on the register

are you preping it for a MOT? am sure that at some point someone will say, hold on this bike isnt legal, i.e MOT or insurance, have you phones an insurer up and asked? am sure they would give you a red flag soon.

EDIT:
Because it is a bike and doesn't require an inspection by the dvla all that it will need is a new MOT. It won't go on your V5 but it will show up on HPI checks. Mine was only a cat D so my insurance company weren't really fussed because it wasn't classed as structural damage. I would say a quick phone call to the DVLA and your insurance just to be sure.

My bike was a Cat D and I didn't even M.O.T it or anything as it was less than a year old. It was purely cosmetic and probably stolen recovered.
I got insured £260. Did you have to tell them it was a previous write off because if you did, I didn't?

...i was wondering something similar myself

I'm trying to piece back together my Vt125 after my accident, athough damaged the bike still has 8 months MoT, tax and insurance left but the insurance assessors have classed the bike as a Cat C.....do i just need to make repairs or does the bike need another MoT and/or an inspection before i take it back on the road?

cheers guys

jo

To put a Cat C back on the road, as far as I am aware you do not need an M.O.T.

I thought it was only Cat D that could get away without an MOT? I Thought Cat C - A were structure damage and need a MOT except for A which needs to be crushed. I'm not sure what the difference is between C and B

cat C is also fine to go back on the road, it just -means that it wasnt economical to repair it with new parts, so insurance wrote it off, and gave the owner the cash

as new fairings cost a fortune, bikes are quite easily written off

Fair enough, but what's the difference between C and D then?

dunno, maybe D is slightly lighter damage

i know my sportsbike is cat C, and the damage to that was fairings, and a metal mounting bracket that the fairing attaches to

as ive dropped it a couple of times since myself, its actually been nice knowing it was already cat C

Cat D is light damage and stolen recovered.
Cat C is slightly more damage.
Cat B can not be put back on the road put can be used for spares.
Cat A is going to the crusher.
