A Few weeks ago i bought a hi viz vest with security written in a largeblue box on the back and on a small blue box on the front. One of the reasons i bought it was because it was almost identical (par saying security rather than police) to a hi viz police vest.

People see the reflective blue and assume police. Ive had people pull right over to let me go and stop for me alot more etc. Its brilliant.

I was just wondering, could i get pulled for imitation of a police officer? Even though it says security and not police.

I bought 3 ex police hi-vis jackets off ebay, exactly the same but the police badges had been removed. I used them in the winter and at night and had numerous police cars bikes etc go past me without getting stopped so i wouldnt worry. And i know what you mean about other drivers acting differently. Nah i doubt it very much.

If you worked for a security firm you would wear it and wouldnt need police permission etc.

Also although its Hi-Vis is distinctly says something other than POLICE on it, so your its not the same at all. If it said TURNIP on it no one would argue (just laugh) so whats the difference? You've got a different word on that back.

Long as you dont start pulling people over you'll be fine. I mean people dont get knicked for Fancy Dress police outfits and they are actual copies of uniforms, your not even copying it!

(get a white Pan European and put some hi-vis stripes on it maybe an antenna or two... then you're walking on thinner ice!)

They do, but the sherriff threw the case out.

*Bangs head on desk repeatedly*

Now this is whats wrong with the legal system!

Read through it, one case been thrown out but there are 3 further cases against him!

I mean he's an experienced stripper with 'stripper' written on the back of his costume with big white letters. Works for a registered company with confirmed official bookings and is well established in the community having been doing it for several years.. and they are doing him for 'offensive weapons' as he has 2 batons as part of his costume and 'mascarading as a police officer'.

I mean how far up your ass must your head be shoved to realise this is not worth the police/court time or money!

I remember in summer, pulling in to a lay-by and putting on a hi viz vest as it was dusk.

So many cars slowed down.

I wear a long sleeve hi-viz over-jacket, a white helmet and I happen to ride a white bike. None of which was meant to impersonate the look of a police motorcycle rider, but it does have a positive effect when it comes to being noticed. I often find that fast cars ahead of me will slow to legal speeds until I pass them... then speed up again once they realise.

I used to see a guy commuting into London wearing a hi-viz vest with “Polite” printed on a blue patch on the back. That’s getting into slightly dodgy territory. Laughing

I found a UK supplier who are selling long sleve high viz jackets and let you print custom text logo's on as well as well as the default security, staff, site manager etc. I was thinking of getting a few knocked up saying 'Please Officer' and putting them on ebay. The cost to make them up was only £6-7 a jacket.
