Digital Camcorders

I'm looking into buying a digital camcorder at the moment and since you guys are always making video clips I was wondering what you all use. I think it'd be worth investing in getting a fairly decent one. Is it worth it to go for a 3CCD camera? I know they're really expensive though. Is there any manufacturer and model you think is best ect...?

Also I'll use it on my bike occasionally. Does having a larger camera prove much of a problem when mounting it to the bike?

I have the JCV GR-D20 and that's perfect for what I need. Cost me about £50 all in with 2 years warranty.
That has an 800,000 CCD and I can't see you noticing any difference unless you're using it for proper huge detailed movie files. The conversion makes them all come out the same anyways.
Also they're all pretty small so can be bike mounted, but I would recommend buying one with an analogue input and buying a bullet cam for the bike.

Bullet cam looks like a good idea for the bike. Still, I want to get a proper camcorder aswell. Where did you manage to get it for £50? Was it 2nd hand?

IMO it's not worth investing in an incredibly expensive and advanced camera, not unless you get *seriously* into your filming.

I like JVCs, I've got the GR-D50 which is the same as Dean's, but has the analogue input for my bullet cam. Absolutely no complaints about it - I've had other JVCs in the past and they seem to stand up to a fair level of abuse without breaking down. Picture quality's fine, it's got a million functions I never use...

It's a larger camera than the really tiny ones, but personally I like something with a little bit of weight to it, easier to keep steady. It's a long way from being 'big' though, it's just not a weenie palm cam that you'd get in your pocket.

I'd like to get a really good use out of the camera. I've got a number of things I'd like to use it for. I'd even like to give making a short film a go aswell. (It will suck, but hey it'll be fun) Probably better if I get something mid range and if I get into it I can always sell and buy a better model. I want something that can take a wide angle lens and possibly an external microphone.

The one I am thinking of getting at the moment is the JVC GR-DV4000. You can get addon lenses for it, but I've not found out if it can support any extra microphones yet.
