RD200DX insurance

I'm trying to find insurance for a Yamaha RD200DX from 1976 and the cheapest quotes I'm getting are around £600 TFT.
I've tried Bennetts and motorcycle direct.
Where could I find a cheaper quote?

Try calling one of the specialist insurers.

I use Footman James who specialise in classics. You may find you are too young to be covered under an enthusiasts policy but it's worth a try.

You really need to phone them up rather than rely on the internet.

I was going to phone them up then play the insurers off against each other. As I haven't actually got the bike and have just put an offer in I will see if I actually will need to get insurance.

Confused.com do bikes as well you know, pays to shop around.

Footman James are very cheap for classic insurance but I think you have to be over 25 and the bikes have to be garaged.

Nice bikes but bare in mind Yamaha replaced the engines on one batch under warranty due to gearbox issues, and a mate of mine who did one a few years ago had to split three engines to find a set of straight gear shafts. Part of the problem is poor chain maintenance, but the entire gearbox design is a bit weak. The models with the round tank and front drum brake are very nice bikes (good for about 90mph) but are hard to find parts for. Make sure the bike you are looking at has a good seat base, fork stanctions and mudguards as these are the bits you just can't get. Otherwise spares availability is good for the DX models.
