Hi,HAmmerlie M8

Both nice mid range 400,s M8. The CBR is a nice bike and a bit easier to
service cos it's a Twin, the VFR400 and the RVF are both V4's with direct
gear driven overhead cams, single swing arm,and I think are very sweet engines very high reving red line at 15,000 rpm. Handle like a dream Very Happy

Having said that, it was a CBR400 (Highly race tuned) that won the lightweight class in this year's TT ! Razz

Depends what U want, and what U can afford, the V4's tend to be a bit
more expensive but honestly I love mine.

The cbr's a parrellel 4.. same configuration etc. as the 600/900.... I believe it is easier to service though, as it's a bit simpler and at least all the cylanders are in the same place.

The CBR's a bit madder on insurance though.
Same year/spec bike could be £200 up on a VFR.
I think Bat or performance motorcycles have a nice CBR400 in for about £1800. Plenty of VFR's too.

all the cbrs are parallel 4s. all the vfrs/vfs/rvfs are V4s. that why they have a v in the name.
most of the plain CBs are twins, from the superdream 125 and 250 up to the cb500, i think the 600 and 900 are 4s.

...and my cb250rs is a little 250 single, with holes so big in the exhaust i can fit my little finger in...time for a motad when i sell my 125.

There are a few (mostly cruisers and older bikes) that use a kind of triple-V... like a V-twin but with another cylinder bolted on inline with the others.

And Norton made some kinda weird 'Rotory' engine, but it never took off becasue it was classed as something like 1.7 litres, rather than the 600cc than norton suggested and thus wasn't allowed in any officail racing.

AFAIK a square four has two different crank shafts, in a v four style configuration, thus it is effectivly two seperate engines (not sure if the cranks are conencted of if it's done in the gear box).

theres always singles..
i think someone is making a rotary (or wankel hehe) engine atm.. not sure who, it was in superbike a while back. in theory they are good machines.

r stands for racing, s stands for sports or series.

although i'm not sure about my bike, because its hardly a cb250 racing series.. more of a cb250 really slow.

the CBR400 is supposed to be a much better bike all round than the VFR, more comfortable and faster, but i think also a bit more pricey and the only really good ones are the newest ones.

Mazda have just developed a new rotary engine...produces about 280bhp from a 1.4l lump...it's in the new RX-8...it revs to f*ck...moreso than the S2000...

...better leave it there...
