It will be the first time I have to buy a pair of tyres for my 1998 FZS. It has BT010's at the moment. My favorite tyre place has recommended BT014's. Are these suitable and can I do better? Any advice welcomed Smile

014's will be fine. Conti Road Attacks are awesome too, as are Pirelli Diablo's. Thumbs Up

I've heard 014's tend to square off quite quickly.

They will be fine, but I've heard they square off quite quickly, although I've never used them. Wink

Although I was looking at 014's for my mille, so it could just be that the mille squares them off pretty quickly because of the power delivery.

Boy that was confusing Confused . Michelin Pilots come in several flavours. No one seemed to know, least of all me, what would be the best one for my needs. fortunatly the tyre fitter was also a biker and understood both my needs and the Michelin product range. Hence now the happy owner of a pair of Pilot Road 2's. Thumbs Up

I've got 014's on mine and they're quickly heading towards death (octagonal) just 3000 miles later. Having said that they are very grippy and great in the summer when warmed up!

The 014 is the newer version of the 010. They 'square off quickly' because they are a fairly sticky tyre, so wears fairly quickly.
Pirelli tyres have always seemed to work well for me.

I haven't found any decent Michelin bike tyres myself - though I have mostly used their track ones on bikes; I have heard similar criticisms about their road tyres to what I have found on the track ones.
Similarly for Continentals and Avons, though I haven't used any of their newest ones, their older ones have all been pretty poor.

In the end, if you ride relatively calmly and don't try and push the bike / tyres, pretty much any tyre will be good and seem fine - thus some tyres that I've found to be terrible (usually when I've done something stupid and expected the tyre to sort it out as a better one would) other people think are great.
Also, it should be remembered that generally putting new tyres on to replace old tyres will generally make the bike feel better as they are a better profile - so it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking whatever new tyres you get make the bike feel a lot better than the old ones.
